Advice of JackPucks. I don’t plan on any
Off-road trips with my R1S but I am wondering what advice would you give on quantity of jack pucks and either the regular or XL? Not sure why I’d need more than one either? Suggestions ?

If you're using one of those Torin bottle jacks, the regular sized jack puck isn't high enough (or the jack doesn't lift high enough, rather) for the rear of the R1. You'll need another ~2in of clearance under the jack to get the wheel off the ground. That's what the XL puck is for.

I assume if you can only have one, maybe get the XL to know you're covered front and rear?

I carry a set of 4 short ones at all times in case I need to go to a tire shop while on the road that doesn't have pucks. I also have an XL to go with my Big Red bottle jack in case I need to change a tire myself. I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

I have a small one I carry with the spare tire assembly as a just in case it's needed. I found shortly after delivery that the components of the jack stand and parts fell down from the plate as they were only held onto the bottom side of the platform with velcro straps. I then took the whole assembly out of the truck, turned it over and reinstalled it inside the spare wheel where gravity + the straps helps keep the whole assembly in place. There is also some room for some short 2x4 boards to put in there for additional lift capacity with the short puck.

Advice of JackPucks. I don’t plan on any

Megawatt or jackpucks.com are my recos. Both are magnetic. You need 4 for two reasons: There will be situations where you—or whoever is doing the work—need to jack more than one corner. The other is redundancy. Should any fail, as unlikely as that is, you have more. And should you ever need additional height to lift tire off ground, in a pinch, you can stack them with care/caution. XL puck is optional. There are other ways to gain additional lift height. Like jack extensions and/or padding under the jack. Padding can be hard/thick lumber or purpose-made jack pads (like ones made for leveling RVs). Maxtrax even has mini traction boards that double as jack bases and are stackable.

Pucks are not expensive, especially when compared to vehicle cost/value. It’s also a safety issue. Irrational to nickel and dime.

I would definitely get the 4 puck set and stick in the trunk/frunk. Any shop outside of Rivian may not have them and would use yours to prevent any damage the vehicle. Worth the money 100%

At least for the R1T: The problem with the XL puck is that if your tire is completely deflated and you're using a bottle jack (similar to mine), you cannot get the jack + XL puck under the jack point of the vehicle as the vehicle is too low to the ground.

My suggestion: If you're getting only one puck, get the regular puck and then carry a separate base (some 2X4s, an ARB jack base, or something) to give you enough height for the rear. Or just use the Rivian scissor jack, which is what I've done a couple of times. (Going forward, not sure what I'll use the XL puck for; maybe a paperweight?)

I didn't even think of that (and that's the #1 primary use case)...is that the case even if you lift the body to Highest in Off-Road? I suppose if you can't fit an XL jack underneath, it may also be hard to fit a block underneath the bottle jack too.

I got a set of 4 but never used them and now leave them at home. At home and on the trail, I jack directly on my rock sliders instead. I guess on a road trip it's not a bad idea to have them, but realistically any service beyond a tire change will probably require a tow to a Rivian SC anyway.

Thanks to everyone for their information. All the info is good. It looks like I'll be getting a regular one and an XL. I'll also be using the bottle jack. I've had scissor jacks in the past and haven't had a good experience. Although it was in Chicago in the winter, the problem was reversed. Now, in Arizona, the problem is reversed.

I have one XL and a bottle jack for the road. Also some smaller, non-brand name ones. At home I do my own tire rotations and use two 3-ton floor jacks, one which is extended reach. The extended reach one does not need the XL puck, but the regular one does, especially for the rear. Even though there may be too little clearance in case of a flat (hadn’t thought of that), I find I mostly just get a random nail. Being able to take the tire off at home and take it in to Discount Tire is entirely doable. I don’t use extra boards or try to stack smaller pucks because all those extra “parts” makes the vehicle more prone to falling should anything get off balance. And often vehicles do move some when lifting.
