Car is too high in standard mode for my family. I’m going to try to see if the kneel option works. But doesn’t that stress your suspension for often since you’re using it all the time?
I stopped using kneel mode because it may stress the suspension. But I found myself slipping off the seat and thought I’d eventually wear down the seat material! I didn’t want to get running boards and perhaps impact the efficiency. What I do now is really working! I use kneel mode and I lower my seat all the way down when I exit my R1S. It’s perfect!!! (I’m 5 ft 4 in).

I thought this same thing back in the day while we were still waiting on deliveries. Someone on the forum said, "don't you want to stress the suspension while it is still under warranty?".

I thought to myself, "thats a great point" and have never looked back. Even with Kneel mode at 5'10" its still a hop in the car.

I desperately wish that there were a good brand of powered running boards. I know Hansshow has some, but I'm worried about the quality and they look a little too chunky.

I’ve been using kneel mode but it doesn’t go low enough for my wife. Her sliding out and climbing in is taking a toll on the edge of the seats. I’ve ordered some running board/rock sliders to make ingress and egress easier for her and other short relatives and friends.

My only complaint with kneel mode is the occasional “wait to move or suspension damage will result” which is a non starter on my way to a fire call.

Everything has a theoretical duty cycle limit and life expectancy. The more you use something the more cycles you use up in any given time frame. How many cycles will each air bag endure before failure? No one knows. If you have to use kneel, then use it; knowing there are potential costs. Like any other car you've owned before. Something's bound to break eventually.

The suspension is constantly moving (compression and rebound) while driving. Kneel mode isn't going to cause an issue. I've been using park mode (same as kneel mode) on my Grand Cherokee air suspension for many years now and it hasn't caused any issues.

This is dead on. I cant drive 5 miles without it raising and lowering 10 times. Kneel mode is nothing in comparison to driving the thing

I would argue the Engineers absolutely know the anticipated lifetime lifecycle of this system with a very specific confidence interval and control limits.

nah man. They just went based on vibes, like people who are afraid that kneel will cause premature failures.

I’m with the “I bought, I will use it” crowd. You’re more likely to damage the suspension off-roading. Or getting into an accident with regular driving. If it f’s up my suspension, warranty will help.

Are all of you “I don’t want to hurt the suspension” folks not going to charge the truck ever because the more charge cycles the faster battery will lose capacity?

Use it and enjoy it!!!

I have been using kneel mode since my first day of ownership (4 months) as I have a wee lady in the house. No issues to report. I do hope the air suspension is more robust than say the old Audi All-Roads from the early aughts. Also my experience is same as graymatter, my R1S seems to adjust mid-drive. I worked for years in industrial automation so the solenoid clicks are oddly comforting.

So if I have the ride height in “low” does that override Kneel mode?

Do you guys generally leave it in standard ,low or auto mode? Someone said low mode cause the tires to wear out faster. I can’t recall what the disadvantage of auto mode was.

I have been doing standard but now trying kneel mode to help the kids get in and out. But I notice that even 10-20 minutes after driving off, it still makes knocking sounds as it adjusts the ride height. I don’t have it in auto mode so it should NOT be adjusting the ride height that long after driving. But Rivian told me that is normal as the vehicle is adjusting while driving.
