Is anyone else frustrated with the lack of RAN chargers in the Chicago area? I received enough referral credit to get 3 years of free charging, but there aren't any L3 chargers in the city or suburbs. To boot, Rivian sends out this email about their new downtown Chicago location with this "impressive" map of their chargers and service centers. There are 2 L2 chargers on the entire map for a population of 9 million people.

You don't have to use Rivian's network. Rivian's focus is building cars, not super-rapidly building out a charging network. Because charging already exists. (Unlike Tesla, who when they first rolled out the Model S, there were maybe 100 public high-speed charging sites nationwide, and none of them compatible with the Model S.)

If you want Rivian-compatible DC charging, here you go:

And as the name implies, the early rollout of the Rivian Adventure Network is to put charging near "adventure" locations/corridors.

Yes, you have a perk that grants you free charging at RAN. That doesn't mean you should make or even expect that to be your primary means of charging. Heck, I have a RAN only a few miles from my house - right next to a Tesla Supercharger. And I have an older Tesla that has unlimited free Supercharging. Do I go out of my way to charge there just because it's free? No. I charge at home because it's convenient.
