I miss seeing my Teams messages on the screen as in my beater Chevy with Android Auto. 🤔😜
Honestly, I was in a rental last month. Used Android Auto while I was driving. I don't miss it. Thought I would, don't.

Do miss the eyes free little clicky wheel navigation thing in the Q7 though.

Turn the volume of the turn signal down. Maybe even change it to something a little more soothing. Oh, and make the interface snappier on Gen 2's. My Gen 1 was faster.
I am fine with them improving the G2 interface's response, just don't ruin G1's...

Gen1 has gotten worse, not better. They really need more optimization for the UI.

The core hardware underpinning the infotainment is nearly identical between the two.
Actually they went from 17 different ECUs in Gen 1 (1 controller/processor for each system) to only 7 in Gen 2 by consolidating the controllers in shared processors (different cores). The new infotainment is now in a liquid cooled unit shared with other system controllers. Look at the video made by Out of Spec after the launch or the R1 Gen 2 at 47:30. This has contributed to the gross margins improvement...

That's for the autonomy stuff. The infotainment itself runs on essentially the same hardware. There was a recent Munro video where he visited Rivian and the engineer there confirmed that, for infotainment, it's basically running the same hardware.

The infotainment itself is basically the same but many systems that you control over it like climate controls, charging, etc. are now sharing the same processors which were supposed to be 10x more powerful…. and when switching from climate or navigation to something else it needs to wait for the other processors to respond. Guess what, the interface in Gen 2 is now slower as shared by many Rivian enthusiasts.

You're confusing several components.

ECU consolidation was part of the Gen 2 improvements. it means less hardware is required to control the vehicles electronic components. Early on Rivian when working Gen 1 vehicles, had separate teams working different aspects of the vehicle, which meant each team more or less had their own ECU, which would then be integrated into the vehicle to create a seamless user experience, from roll control, to power windows. A divide and concur strategy if you will.

With Gen 2 they could start using single ECU's to control multiple aspects of the vehicle. so now instead of an ECU controlling 1 or 2 aspects of the vehicle, now an ECU controls 5 or 6. Better for efficiency, manufacturing ease, and potentially reduces latency.

I get where you're going however in assuming that because one ECU is doing more work it's causing a sluggish experience but the rationale that they are using, in essence, a Gen 1 ECU to control 5x the load is not the case. It just likely comes down to software optimizations that need to happen between both Gen 1 and 2 to provide a better, more snappy experience. Wassym recently took to reddit to verify that indeed they are having some issues with a few trouble applications within the the platform

The 10x compute platform is specifically for Rivian Autonomy and its machine based learning. Maybe they can leverage some of that extra compute for other aspects of the vehicle, but the reality is, it's meant to be an affordable compute platform that can take them beyond the autonomy demands of today, and into tomorrow, at least as much as possible.

Well that’s a lot of improvements for a slower screen… 😂

I don’t mean to give second thoughts to the Gen 2 owners. They still have the most advanced truck in the market but fact is that the infotainment is not a improvement when compared side by side with Gen 1.

Everybody - quit your belly aching. Some updates are better than others, but it’s really cool to have a constantly evolving vehicle. For sure, there have been updates that were pretty meh, but others, for me, have been game changers. For instance, the last update included suspension changes to my ‘23 R1T that made my rig so much more enjoyable to drive. I was about to schedule an SC appointment to address the rear suspension noise, but that was magically resolved with 2025.10. Hopefully, this monthly evolution will continue for quite some time. I know there will come a day when the Gen 1 R1’s will be left behind. Oh, well.
Okay zachty

How about being able to use voice for music like Apple Music?! How sketchy is it trying to change or find a song while driving and using the keyboard?! Not sure how they let that pass
