2022 R1T & 2020 Tesla Model Y LR & R1S on order
The scene -

Coming from a property I mange - flat land all dirt roads. Was in All purpose mode standard height 60% battery. After I cross the wooden bridge it turns to paved single lane road.

Take a hard right up a 30% grade decided to hit conserve(going 3-5 mph) in maybe 200 feet I am going to turn on to the highway at the top of the hill. The truck literally just gives up. Pedal to the floor dead stop midway up the hill.

I then clicked all purpose and the truck came back to life. So lesson learned conserve should be engaged on the highway while in motion.

Also as a previous Tesla owner has anyone else noticed that when switching from forward to reverse while still in motion causes the truck to accelerate backwards with some force?

No. It's incredibly smooth and just the other day I commented on how much I appreciate the shifting continuity.

why would you shift to reverse while in motion?

I learned not to do this in my Bolt with the accelerator still down, because in sport mode it'd throw an unresetable code and drop the HV power out.

I do the shift forward to reverse (and the other way) while having slight throttle and it's smooth as butter

I had a scary incident this weekend. I was in off road mode on a dirt road and switched back to all purpose as I was turning onto a 55 mph paved road. I switched modes about 100 yards before my turn. I stopped and saw no traffic and pulled into the paved road and had almost no power! I floored the accelerator again and nothing - I looked at the speedometer and it was maxed at 20 mph. 5–10 seconds later and it finally came up to speed. Thankfully no one was coming up behind me on the road. Lesson learned - give the truck LOTS of time to change modes!
