I was driving today and while traveling @55 mph both screens went black and the car rebooted itself. The car continued to drive. The speedometer continued to show but it was dimmed way back. Has this ever happened to anyone? What could have caused this?

While seemingly scary, the car did not reboot but rather the infotainment system did. This has happened to me twice in the year of ownership. Everything car and safety wise would have still been functional (at least that is my understanding).

Yea, its unsettling for sure. Happened to me one time during a rather dark stretch of road. Shocked me for sure. It came back up and basically said...what's up buddy? :D

When it happens, hold the Hazard light button for 15 seconds, and it will take a snapshot of the diagnostics and much more data than they can normally retrieve. This way, they can dig in and see why it happened

Hasn't happened to me, but a handful of people on the forum have reported it. Scary when it happens, but harmless - just bad timing! Those darn computers on wheels...

There is another way to accomplish the same. Long press if your driver profile icon at top of center display. Though it has never happened to me, most recent OTA appears have had this effect on more people than the past. Your control of the vehicle's speed and steering is not affected, so no need to panic.

My Tesla did this to me a couple of times. Never on the R1s. It is unnerving the first time it happens. They really ought to tell customers that it is rare but no big deal if it happens.

Yes, it happens, various posts about this, and is very concerning, scary to most. Hopefully you were safe.

We are a computer on wheels, though I expect this to be a rare occurrence.

another FAQ candidate..

Yes, it has happened to me once on the commute home at 60 MPH. It was surprising but as the truck kept running, I just kept driving until the display finished the restart. Turned out to be a non-event.

Happen to me recently. 1st time ever in 3+years of ownership. Like others on here, it's a WTF moment. You do a quick assessment, vehicle still going, am I ok, etc.. then all comes back on and you continue on.
