The light is on when the charger is powered. However, the switch does not turn it off. It's a mode switch according to the documentation that came with it. "O" mode is supposed to power off 20 minutes after the car and "I" mode will stay on indefinitely. It seems to me Rivian never sends a shut off signal to the OBD II port, so I think the light (and charger) will stay on indefinitely regardless of switch state. As for the ring light, seems like you need to block it physically if you don't want it to show. At 0.2W of draw as stated above, it would take 500k hours (57 years) to drain a 100kWh battery pack, so I think it's fine to leave it plugged in.
You think the OBD-2 pulls power from the main battery or the small 12v battery? I assume it pulls power from 12v battery.

For anyone else looking to fix the underpower and slow charging problem, I found a quick and affordable fix. I was really unhappy with the power adapter in the kit. I honestly don't understand why EV Sportline would include that underpowered adapter, it is not designed to be used with the included puck. The magsafe puck however is amazing and has a really strong magnet, but it is severely held back by that underpowered adapter. In fact the back of the magsafe puck states to use a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter that can supply a minimum of 18W to be able to properly use the puck. The included adapter doesn't support the Quick Charge protocol at all and is only able to provide 12.5W of power at best and since it doesn't support Quick Charge the magsafe puck ends up falling back to supplying only 5W. If I used Waze my phone would discharge on the puck because it wasn't getting enough power.

I found a solution however.
Buy the Scosche OBD2 USB Quick Charge 3.0 Dash Cam Hard Wire Kit on amazon, it cost me $15. This adapter supports Quick Charge 3.0 and provides 18W of power over USB. It is also smaller and easier to tuck away in the dash than the included adapter.

Cut off the OBD2 adapter and fuse from the Scosche then crimp the fuse tap and o ring from the EV Sportline adapter to the Scorche adapter using butt connectors. You will also need a USB to USB-C cable, any would do, however if you are like me and want that clean look get this 90 degree usbc cable on amazon and any USB to USB-C adapter. That cable has a 90 degree bend at the port making the cable essentially disappear behind the puck for a nice pro look.

Now I get fast wireless charging at the full 15W, I can have Waze and as many apps as I want running on my phone at the same time without worrying about my phone dying!

The kit is really well put together besides the power adapter, @EV Sportline if you replace the adapter with a Quick Charge 3.0 compatible one it would be perfect and a great addition to any Rivian. However, in its current form I can't recommend it since most people's phone will die while charging.

Took me like 5 minutes to crimp and heat wrap the cables together.

No more cable sticking out the bottom!

Does the OBD2 work for you because you are not drawing power when the phone is not attached? I’m seeing the OBD2 on gen 2 not shutting off.

I assume the power is coming from the 12v battery and I don’t want my screen to drain the 12v battery.

we did the math, I think it was 190 years for the screen to drain the battery. The 12v is maintained with a dc-to-dc charger connected to the high voltage battery.

Great. Was not sure if the Dc-to-Dc charger was on when the vehicle is parked.

and you CarPlay screen reconnects after walking away. And coming back? I have CarPlay in another vehicle that only connected when powering up. So if I connect, walk away and disconnect, when I come back it does not reconnect.

I got around to installing this and it worked great. Only thing as others mentioned is that I wish they included a 90 elbow USBC cable instead of the straight one. I ended up buying one to reduce the cable visibility

I don't think that's how it works. On a Tesla, the high voltage battery pack regularly charges the 12v on an as needed basis because the car's computer is always using some power to enable sentry mode, listen for keys in proximity, to check for updates, to monitor and apply heating/cooling to battery pack, etc. If the 12v goes too low, the pack will simply charge it up. If Rivian worked any differently, I would be utterly shocked.

Just installed mine yesterday on my Gen 2 2025, I love it, holds the phone secure, charging works great, position is good even in landscape with iPhone 15 Pro. One question, its using the OBD port power adapter which is fine but how can I get the blue ring to turn off? I tried turning off the switch on the OBD thingy but the blue light stays on
Blue light cover! Fits perfectly over light!

I’m a new owner and purchased one of these phone chargers. It came with the newly added light ring cover. Fit perfectly and blocked everything out.

I watched the install video twice and then did it myself. Took maybe ten minutes tops to install it from start to finish.

sturdy as hell. Well built product.

fantastic!
Question for you guys- love the mount. It's rock solid and the actual magnet is super strong. I have a Gen2 and installed the charger via the ODB port. The toggle on the plug is set to "0" per the instructions.

When I go back to check on the car- maybe 20-30 minutes after parking- I see that the charger is still powered on. The light ring is fully illuminated. (To be clear, I don't have a key or phone with me- so the car isn't unlocking.)

Shouldn't the charger be off and not drawing from the car? Do I have a faulty unit, is this normal, or did I do something wrong?

takes 20mins for Rivian to shut down. And if you're using a phone key, it's turning back on any time you're in range. BTW, this is / has been happening regardless of having the phone charger. The charger install just makes people aware of this.

BTW the power draw is de minis. I think our engineers calculated it would take 80years to run the main battery down :CWL:
