Hi all, new to the group... We bought a new Glacier White dual motor (max battery) R1S April 25, took delivery at the Seattle service center.

Love the car. We've put about 600 miles on it, but I've had an issue twice now where I get in to drive it, and the dash warnings all go off at the same time. Both times I've neglected to take photos/videos, but will do next time.

By saying it's a 'Christmas tree' - I mean every warning is in alarm at the same time. It tells me to pull over, call a tow truck. It says to service the high voltage battery, and the 12 volt battery. It says to service the air suspension. It says to service the forward collision system. Honestly, it seems the computer is totally wigged out. It won't let me put the car in drive, and it seems the computer gets stuck in a reboot loop each time where the screen goes black, comes back on with all the warnings/alarms going off, then it cycles again.

Both times I've done the hard reboot procedure, and the car comes back up like nothing happened. It did this last Saturday, May 3, and again yesterday (May 7). Both times it's happened in my driveway at home in the morning, hasn't done this yet away from the house.

I tried setting a service appointment on the app, but it shows mobile service and Seattle service have no availability for the rest of time. Bellevue has appointments in September.

So the question to the group, since this is the first Rivian I've owned - is this a common issue, or do I likely have some computer/hardware/wiring problems I need to call Rivian to get addressed? I'm nervous as each time this has happened it's unclear to me if the car will reboot normally, so I've stopped taking it to the airport for work.

Thanks!

that's unfortunate but especially that new
hopefully others will chime in with good advice
when it does it again:
DON'T SOFT OR HARD RESET
IIRC - hit the driver or person icon at the top of the screen to timestamp the event
call "roadside service"
they will walk you thru any steps to determine drive-ability and service requirements
if critical they will schedule tow and service

I had something very similar happen to my 2025 R1T, and it was my fault. I was installing a powered sub (the base stereo is awful) and partially shorted the 12v battery for a few seconds. Partially in that I let a fuse block flop over against a painted surface under the seat, so just partial contact, not a dead short, but it was enough to cause havoc.

I first got a critical battery failure warning, all the lights, annoying chime, etc. Hard reset changed that to a potential electrical fault error warning, otherwise still all the warning lights, and could not move the truck. I could lock and unlock just fine however.

While in this state, the rear light bar and bed interior lights were flickering, even when locked.

Once the truck went to sleep and rewoke, all was fine, and has been fine since.

Based on similar symptoms, I'd venture to guess you have a loose connection, bad 12v battery, or other issue in the 12v power circuit.

The 12v battery is inder the passenger seat in the Gen 2 vehicles. Need to unbolt the seat to get to it if you're mechanically inclined, but not hard to access.

I initially spoke with Rivian service and they set an appointment for August in Seattle, but mentioned if it did it again, they'd get me in sooner. Well, it did it again early last week, so I called and was able to drop it off yesterday. Four times in four weeks we'd get the "call tow truck" warning.

Picked up a Kona EV from Enterprise and spent the drive home discussing with my wife how nice the Rivian is, night and day going from an R1S to a Kona... The enterprise rep told the guy in front of me he'd definitely go with the Equinox EV over the Kona... If only we'd got to the service counter a minute sooner, I could've had that Equinox!

Part of a hard reset is recording the same diagnostic as holding the person icon. It doesn't hurt to do both, but the same info should be recorded by simply doing a hard reset (according to my last chat with roadside support).
