I do not know the date of this image from USGS but is interesting. If anyone has a way to get newer or at least dated images, would like to see what those look like.

Any thoughts on what appears to be a large number of staged vehicles? It seems like way too many vehicles to be Rivians, we know it is a newer image after the plant opened as you can see "Not The End" spelled out in the image.

I thought so originally but this image from Bing does not have them and it is also an image from after the plant opened. I assume USGS is a newer image than Bing.

Somebody set that up when the old plant closed to say "The End." Rivian added the "Not" after they moved in. Now I suspect they've cleaned all that up.

Google Earth's imagery is from 2019 and the "not the end"" is gone. And the lot is empty.

I am guessing that these are old images because I don't see that the off-road features or the drift track are added to any of the images I look at (Google Maps or Earth, USGS, Bing). I think if we want something newer, then someone is going to need to get something from a commercial service.

There is nothing available for free newer than 2019.

Where are all the Rivian drone factory videos? It seems like weekly, there is a Tesla drone update on YouTube... Maybe Rivian has managed to protect the airspace above their factory.

Interesting question for sure. The plant is within restricted airspace because of approach/departure flight paths from BMI airport. It looks to me like the restriction is just a hard ceiling of 150m though, so I would think someone could do a lower flyover? Even at 100m you'd be able to get something, wouldn't you?

perhaps there’s no dronethusiasts in normal/no one wants to drive all the way out there?

If there's anyone with some free time, I believe the european space agency covers the globe every 10ish days. It's open access. Some of their instrumentation would only produce black/white, and some would is color photographs. It's generally going to be a lower resolution than what we get with private aerial images, but you should be able to see if they're storing a shit ton of cars on site somewhere.

Not sure where you got this map of airspace, but it is not accurate.

BMI is a towered, class D airport.

Its controlled airspace is a circle around the airport, from 0 to 2,500 feet AGL (above ground level). You can see the circle on the sectional chart.

The Rivian factory *is* inside that controlled airspace.

And drones can only operate inside controlled airspace with ATC approval, which I'm guessing no one in Normal wants to deal with.

Hmm … I got it from DJI’ safe flight map:
