Self-proclaimed. There's a quote by Neil deGrasse Tyson, something along the lines of [in this info age] it's very easy to know enough to think you know it all. It's kinda like that. In his own time, at various internships and jobs, he supposedly dabbled in self-taught coding but was never formally educated or trained as an engineer of any sort. From wiki: Musk has a BA in physics and a BS in economics. He was accepted to graduate program in materials science at Stanford but failed to enroll. A BS artist with family money (emeral mining in South Africa) to throw around, invest and take over (PayPal, Tesla, Twitter, etc.). The cult worshipers give him far too much credit and myth somehow became "fact".
That must be why he wants Wikipedia to die so badly ?

I'll give the noise a pass, I'm sure the R2/R3 is even drivable sounds just as rough at this stage of development. Scout doesn't even have a factory.

Not sure why the marketing team thought taking it out for a ride was a smart idea

? agree…this was a fail. CEO sucked/greasy dude from high school FBLA club. Drivetrain noise awful. This Scout came back prematurely.

…and I am an enthusiastic $100 deposit-or.

Leasing Tesla Model 3 until Rivian R3X comes out.
Yeah, as for price they’re playing the ‘up-to/starting-at’ game. The range is up to 350 miles and the price is starting at under $60K, but you’re not going to get a 350-mile range Scout for under $60K.

It’s like enthusiasts forget that the whole point of VW buying the Scout brand is to make money, not to take a loss building you an affordable EV truck/SUV.

I doubt the R2 or R3 sound this rough as they are using the proven enduro motors that are in my R1. Those motors don’t sound like that.

I'll still hold my judgement until 2028 when and if these launch.

The CEO is a bit annoying, but Jay becomes the first non scout employee to drive the prototype.

Some relatively new information on the breakdown between the all-electric version and the range extender.

Admin addendum: Also follow the discussions on this video at affiliate Scoutevforum

https://www.scoutevforum.com/forum/...fuel-tank-capacity-more-specs-revealed.11943/

Most specs on Scout will be out of date by its production date, two years from now, 2027!

Was interesting to learn that the one with the Gas generator will have the LFP battery. Will be interesting to see how hard it is to get at that generator for maint also. I really don't see these being cars people service on their own like the CEO was saying.

People are taking those comments out of context. He isn’t referring to deep dive repairs like engine or motor swaps. He’s talking about basic maintenance and things the intermediate DIY’er might do. Most of the same things some Rivian owners are already doing—12V swap, fluids, wipers, brake service, etc.. He’s playing on the general consumers’ ignorance and misconceptions that EVs are closed systems with zero DIY opportunities. Pay attention to everything that brand has put out. They are not speaking to or targeting consumers who are already savvy about EVs. Much like Ford they are aiming squarely at convincing people who aren’t; being as much like the ICE car that is familiar but electrified. IMO, and Ford’s struggle proves it, it’s a fundamentally flawed marketing and product planning strategy.

Now, if I’m wrong and he is actually serious about repairability, I’d be very impressed if they make the service manual and parts catalog available to consumers. I bet anyone a case of beer that will not happen. No OEM will do that to risk liability, lose control and miss opportunity to charge for that information.

This guy is the typical fast talking pitchman. Lots of hyperboles. Too many. The ad biz is full of them. And he found a sympathetic ear in Leno, who is really showing his age (not just physical appearances).

I consider basic engine maint (on the harvester models that have the gas generator) as something that should be able to be done by the owner. Things like Oil changes, air filter, spark plugs, 12 volt, brake fluid etc... Going to be interesting to see how hard it is to get at that gas generator on the models that have it.

That’s what I meant. But people are jumping to conclusions thinking Keogh meant “everything”. He is a CEO with a sales background. He is dealing out general hyperboles. Spinning to make a compelling sales pitch, without being specific. Y’know, salesman doing his job.

They say that dogs resemble their owners. The same could perhaps apply to CEOs of auto companies and their cars. One day, if RJ gets contract lenses, the front of the Rivians might resemble the Scout. That would be a big improvement, in my opinion. Ditch the spectacles!

Cars are designed to appeal to humankind's instinct to tame the beast. That's why the front of most of them look like saber-toothed tigers, cats, dogs, oxen, etc. The Scout headlights are narrow slits evocative of dominance. To me they look like horse pupils. They're not generally characters from Despicable Me or Minions.
