Placed an order for a tri-motor R1S with the slate sky / storm blue on 8/5. About 10 minutes after the order I recieved an email "Your R1S configuration has been updated"... Updated? Checking the configurator, Rivian had changed my exterior color to limestone. In a bit of a panic, after dropping a 3k deposit, I called and was told the slate sky / storm blue was no longer a combination that Rivian is offering.. WHAT? I know they are no longer offering Rivian blue / slate sky as an option but slate / storm seems like the perfet colorway (at least to me). I pushed back that it must be a glitch but am still waiting for confirmation over 24 hours later. Anyone have any inside info?

I understand why this would be annoying, but just as a comparison early orders had multiple changes made to their orders or were forced to change their original choices based on multiple factors like supply chain issues for spare tires (removed from everyone's orders by Rivian, including mine), or their efforts to streamline manufacturing. Certain combos couldn't be had for Gen1 after the first few months and it helped them quite a bit.

Some had reservations for the more affordable Explore model, then Rivian decided they weren't going to build it and those folks only had the option to switch to the Adventure. I also had factory PPF on my order but at the time they were really struggling with that and it caused my order to be delayed by 3 months so they removed it and I had my truck 2 weeks later.

yeah but Rivian only said they were deleting the slate sky / riv blue, canyon red, forrest green color combos, there was no mention of deleting the slate sky / storm blue option.. it still shows in the configurator, while if you choose the slate sky interior the three aforementioned colores ar no longer choices.

To me, the Storm Blue and Slate Sky pair PERFECTLY. This doesn't make sense...

If I remember correctly they were at least somewhat transparent about it. We got emails explaining that our config was discontinued. Based on the OP's story, it feels like they were just hoping they wouldn't notice.

Also, we had pre-ordered years before the design had been finalized. We knew (or at least should have) there were be differences between the final production vehicle and the concept cars that were being shown at the time we ordered.

2+ years into production they should have figured this out. It is pretty disturbing that they are still constantly changing their mind about what they are going to build at this stage.

I suspect that you also agree with me that discontinuing yellow was a huge mistake. Rivian's aesthetic tastes clearly do not align with ours.

I totally agree with you on that. They always seem to be a couple steps behind on the communications. This is avoidable.

Looks like the configurator will allow it still? Storm Blue exterior and Slate Sky interior, right?

I have a quad reserved, and Rivian hasn't given me the capability of confirming anything yet.
