Hello all,

When this truck works, it's a lot of fun to drive. I am losing confidence daily though through multiple unexplained issues. The latest was just 2 days ago. It had been raining pretty good the prior evening and throughout the night--and was still raining in the morning. I got in the truck at 9:00 am to drive to a local trail to go for a hike in the mountains, and my passenger side window was fully open! Water all over the seat and door! WTF had happened? I had driven home from dinner the night prior with my wife, so I thought maybe the window was down when we parked in the driveway and I had not noticed. Luckily, I have a security camera right over that corner of our driveway that records 24/7, so I went and checked. Clear video of the window fully up when we got home from dinner just before sunset. So I scrolled through the video and at around 3:30 am, the window just...opens! How in the heck does that happen? Of course, it was on a night of substantial rain! Then my mind starts going...what if the truck was at the airport (I travel a fair amount...) and it just opened up? How about in the parking lot of a hotel? Anywhere else where it could simply decide to open a single window...or multiple windows? No notice from the app that I had a window open either.

I was connected to my home charger all night, but the charge was already completed prior to 3:30. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any advice on what may have caused it? My local Service Center is really good, and unfortunately I have gotten to know the crew pretty well due to multiple issues with the truck, so I will hit them up as well, but wanted to ask here in case anyone else has seen this?

Attached is camera video. Zoom in and watch at 15 second point.

That is really strange, never had it happen that I know of.

Can you share the video? Have you reported this to Rivian?

I just added video to original post…and have reported to Rivian. They are investigating now.

Is it possible someone was messing with your app? I've never heard of this happening to anyone else, so this is a strange issue. Hopefully, this isn't a flipper zero type thing where people can hack into these to mess with them. It could even be someone with remote access to your cellphone due to a hack/malware.

The app only allows for close all or vent all, nothing in the app that seems to open only 1.

Now we will all be unsure if we have an open window if it was left open or just opened.

That is really strange to see.

Was gonna say, the app only allows to close windows or crack all of them. This is something different.

I've had the driver's gear tunnel door fall open on its own a couple times while parked. Rivian couldn't replicate the problem when I had it in for service. This only happened in the winter though with no random openings since spring. Not the same as a window, but I suspect it's body controller related and not mechanical since the latches always feel solid.

I had something similar happen last Saturday evening/early Sunday morning) during a rainstorm on a roadtrip. Came out to load up the truck Sunday morning and was surprised to find the rear passenger side window open about 25%. I don’t recall hitting the button, the climate control was on when parked so don’t think I would’ve tried to roll ‘em up at the end of the drive. I guess it could’ve been driver error, but…?

I have inadvertently bumped the rear passenger window switch a few times in my short ownership. I didn't realize I did it until I noted the open window notification in the app. So it seems very plausible you did the same thing.

I'd like to think that the electronics in the Rivian are hardened to protect against this type of situation, but I suppose it's possible that it isn't: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-event_upset

In a nutshell, a single particle from space strikes a sensitive piece of electronic equipment (usually a memory buffer of some sort) and a bit gets flipped from 0 to 1. Depending on what that bit is responsible for, you end up with an incorrect value, which depending on the program that reads that address, could do anything from miscount electoral votes to thinking that a power window is being instructed to open up...

It's unlikely, but in the absence of anything else, and if Rivian's electronics aren't properly protected from cosmic radiation, then this is a possible scenario. Hopefully Rivian's telemetry logs will help to identify the cause.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
FWIW - my driver window switch would require 2-3 full presses to get it to "stick" and get a 1-touch down action. This behavior was nearly constant for over a year.

I called to put it on a ticket, they said they'd try with a mobile appt, and then, rather suddenly, it started acting normal. This is, however, shortly after said mobile appt removed the drain plugs from the doors since they were retaining water in the doors.

Do you by any chance hear sloshing? I'm wondering if water intrusion somehow borked your window switch.

I cannot verify that was the issue with mine since it magically got better.

As mentioned earlier, the app doesn't have an "open passenger front window" option - it's all vent or all close.
