I am in the process of purchase either the pre-own Gen1 R1S or Gen2 R1s but have a question on its reliability of Pet Mode. I have read several forums and many reliability issues pointing on Gen2 and seldom few on Gen1s. I use Dog Mode on my Tesla liberally and has zero problems with it and love that features when I take my two furry friends with me. I am more leeway on purchasing Gen1 R1s and don't care about the efficiency on Gen2 due to heat pumps. Need space for my two GSDs so they can have more space than in my Model 3.

Thanks,

Gen 1 here and Doggo-Moddo (as we call it) works fine. You need >50 miles of range to enable it and it will only run until it gets to 50 miles of range. I've left her several times when going to an outdoor concert and she's been fine for a couple of hours while we were away. In the winter time the heat is pretty dry so I always offer her a drink after and she takes water willingly.

61k miles on my Gen 1, numerous road trips with the Dougle, and no pet mode issues. No heavy panting when we return, just glad to see us and mad we left him. My wife wanted to take her RAV4 Prime for her birthday trip to wine country next weekend, but there isn't a pet mode and it's supposed to be in the 80s, so she's thinking we take the Rivian in case we need to leave him in the car somewhere.

Thanks for the info and awaiting for any Gen2 R1S? Seems like more leaning to Gen1 R1S due to positivity remarks.

I have a gen 2 tri max and dog mode works great. No issues with it whatsoever. Also my GSDs just got out of mine we took them for a day in the city.

Pet mode on the Gen 1 worked well for us. Our Gen 2 had issues a while back, but they seem to have been well remedied with recent software updates. We use it often and it now works well on the Gen 2.

Can't speak to Gen2, but both of my Gen1's it works great. I will also use it on really hot days if I am out running errands. Our 90lb black dog has no problems with it running.

Have used Pet Mode on my R1S Gen 1 many times and for at least an hour at a time. It works as well as it does on my Teslas.

I typically set it to a low temp. setting in the summer, 67 or so I think it is. Not sure it really gets that cold in the cabin, but my two dogs always are chilling, sleeping in their middle-seat that I turn into a bed for them. I have two small dogs, and what I have found works and my dogs love is to put a bridge for them between front seat and midle seat such that they can lie down front paws on console and the rear vents cooling their tummy even when travelling for hours. They really love that.

I recently traded my Model X for a Gen1 R1S and pet mode has been a must as my dog goes everywhere with me (90lb Bernedoodle). So far (2 months) pet mode has functioned just as well as it did in my two Teslas before it.
