On 9/20 I was getting ready to show my 22 R1T at a local EV show. I planned to take some electric lawn care equipment and attempted to open the tailgate. After several attempts while pushing and pulling the tailgate I tried both soft and hard resets. No go. I then tried the emergency release in the bed. That didn't work and created a new problem. I now had a "person, animal or loose cargo in bed" message accompanied by an annoying three tone alarm. After consulting the forum, and finding several "do not push that emergency release if your tailgate is stuck" warnings, I made a service appointment via the app. Apparently the only way to clear the alarm is to open the tailgate. Opening the tonneau cover is not sufficient.
The appointment was for 10/2. Not too bad. The alarm was annoying but I could drive wearing earplugs. No music or phone audio worked with alarm. The real problem is that I was leaving on 10/4 for a three week road trip. On 9/22 I contacted the Shelton, CT service center and pled my case for moving the service appointment up. They got me in on 9/25. I picked up the truck on 9/30. Covered under warranty.
I am very happy with response and service I received. I didn't need a truck for a few days and requested a mid-size SUV. Enterprise gave me a Mazda CX-5. Don't get me started on what I think of the Mazda. I was not looking forward to using the rental car for my road trip and was pleased with the quick repair.
The forum is mostly populated with negative service experiences. This service center shows that, if they are not overwhelmed, Rivian can provide quality service.
For those interested they replaced a tailgate latch assembly and side rail harness. Total 8.1 labor hours.
