I picked something from the shop and got a VIN assigned and a guide. First email from her says the following which I’ve asked for clarification but didn’t get any response since Friday afternoon; thought I’d ask here.
  • “We’ll need all the steps completed no later than 3 PM, three business days before delivery” - does it just mean, give 3 days once I finish the “steps” online?
  • “The payment must be fully processed successfully by the deadline, so I suggest sending it at least three business days before then. ACH has the quickest processing time. Wires will need the confirmation uploaded; this should show at least the last four digits of our account number, your bank name, the amount, and date” - what payment is this? I’ve only just made the $1000 and haven’t begun any of the steps.

    Appreciate any inputs!

1. You need to complete all the purchase steps (listed online in your Rivian account) 3 days before your delivery date. If your delivery date is next Saturday (Apr 6th), you have to finish all the steps by 3PM Wednesday (Apr 3rd).

2. This is the initial payment which includes your first month lease payment, tax, tag, title, documentation fees etc. You'll know this amount once you complete the lease/finance step.

(1) Good advice above from @aggrieve8galley.

(2) ACH = Automated Clearing House payments. Your credit union or bank should know how to do this. There might be a wire fee for ACH-type payments. We wired the purchase money for our R1S.

(3) Now that you've been assigned a VIN, you should be able to view your purchase/lease "steps" by logging into your account on Rivian.com, then clicking the vehicle icon on the left side of the computer screen.

The purchase process can be very frustrating. I think the process is far more rigid than it needs to be. Starting early is a good idea!

The purchase-process guides don't always have the latest information, and their demeanor appears to range from "empathetic but little authority" to "absent and uncommunicative." We had a good Guide, whose role was 80% keeping us calm when we got frustrated and 20% conveying our requests to the decision-makers that we weren't allowed to talk to.

We loved the delivery experience. Delivery Guides work at the Service Centers. They know they'll be seeing you again. Ours was personable and took all the time we needed.

Six weeks later, we really like the vehicle. For that price, it ought to be very good -- and it is. I'm glad we bought our R1S.

Congratulations, @R1SFamilyGuy! Welcome to the Rivian-owner family!

Thank you! What I must be missing is I don’t have a delivery date or see the purchase/lease details - yet. Just a little misleading when the email assumes I must be at that point when I am actually not.

Onwards to the next steps, anyway..!
