I'm curious if there have been any significant quality-control and production-line improvements to the R1T that the forum is aware of? I'm curious if some of the more common issues with the earlier builds -- like the "tocking" drivetrain (also known as drivetrain lash), noisy/squeaky suspension, alignment issues and unlevel trucks (passenger side lower than driver's side) -- have been resolved?

I took delivery of my first R1T order back in June (6500 VIN) and it's had some issues, though mostly resolved at this point. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle of selling it and going with a newer build since my second order just came up. If there aren't significant production line improvements, I'd just as soon get my deposit back. On the other hand, if the newer builds are better, I'd rather go that route. Making money on either truck isn't part of my equation, just quality control improvements if they exist.

I don't think there's been any significant improvements that would warrant a full sale and buying a newer one. There's been minor items like removing the 12V in the frunk, and changing the magnets from 2 to 1 in the under liner of the frunk, but other than minor mass production efficiency changes I don't see it being anything revolutionary.

The only exception I can think of right now is the powered tonneau cover, but that's going to be a complete redesign and retrofitted to existing trucks, so selling won't gain you anything.

My 8k vin has the driveline tocking. Suspension is not squeaky and alignment is good. But I think unless your going to wait for a 24 the current builds and probably next years builds will be mostly the same as earlier trucks like yours.

Maybe configure a max pack and delay? Especially if it's a pre March reservation. I wouldn't cancel it. I wish I had made 2.

Quality control ≠ quality

There’s no guarantee a newer vehicle is screwed together better.

Multiple hiring events lately + a new second shift....I'm not sure anything through the next 3-6 months would be any better.

No real improvements. I say ask for your deposit back and tell them you want your place in line to go to G a v i n m c c… :)

I think things will get better, but they aren’t there yet…seen people in 10k-12k range with similar build issues.

"Tocking" - IMO, all VINs prior to the end of this calendar year will fall into only two major categories - those that already have "tocking" and those that will develop "tocking". Maybe a small percentage never develop it. Having done my own mechanical work on my cars since I was a teen, plus construction and farm equipment over the years, I just think that this noise indicates premature wear or excessive manufacturing tolerances and that is NEVER good in drivetrain components. A good thick lube will mask it, but can't fix it. My opinion is that it is an OEM manufacturing wear and/or tolerance problem that needs to be resolved. It seems it has only come to light in the past few months, so a fix could be in the works but what about all the units already in the supply chain pipeline?

This is what I worry about. And if it is drivetrain related, there's no assurances there will be a recall. I can only imagine how expensive that would be at this point.
