went to take a hike in one of our national parks and I see that parking is $5 unless I have an America the beautiful pass which I do. The instructions say to leave the pass on the dash while hiking to avoid a ticket. It’s Sedona so I think I should put up my sun shade to keep the interior cooler. I then have to place the credit card like pass between the sunshade and the windshield so it’s visible to any rangers. The card then slides all the way down to the base of the windshield by the vin making it impossible to retrieve. Once I’m home I get a thin plastic ruler and double sided tape to pull it out. Turns out there is a ledge the forbids my ability to pull the card back up. That ledge turns out to be where the defroster air comes out. It’s a ledge with a slot. As I try to work the card up over the slotted ledge, the $80 pass slips in to the defroster slot disappearing somewhere in the HVAC vent system. Lesson learned the hard way. Don’t put anything thin On the dash near the windshield. I have my headlight recall appointment Wednesday
and I’ll ask if they know any easy way to retrieve the pass from the HVAC. I think I already know the answer and I’ll be out the pass For the rest of its valid period.
