My R1T, quad large pack on oem 21’s over 5,500 miles averaged 2.31mi/kwh with average speed of 32mph.
My R1S, quad large pack, on 20 AT brights on 275/60/20 pirelli AS plus 3 tires (non ev tire), over 6k miles averaged 2.5mi/kWh with average speed of 36mph.
I wonder how much the vehicle difference plays into this though.

This is the data on the two tires from Treadwell on discount tire. The other reason (aside from numerous reviews on this site and a recommendation from the guy at Rivian) that I went with the M/S2s is that they are available in a 33" tire an the Platinums only came in 34" (65s) which I knew would give us a range hit.

(re-uploaded to correct small typo)

thanks for the detailed analysis - agree with your decision. even though you may not need snow/ice performance the Platinums are terrible on snow/ice - and wet roads

I don't love the weight and stiffness of my Platinums, but I disagree about them being terrible on snow and wet. We've had a lot of snow (for my region) this winter and I've found the handling to be similar to the 21" Pirellis they replaced. Wet performance has been fine as well.

Perfect setup! You gained the most efficient wheel and tire combo Rivian offers. Smaller wheels are more efficient.

I have those tires on my 20 OEM brights and it’s 8% more efficient mi/kwh than my R1T was on 21’s. I have a feeling those might be even more efficient than mine with the flatter surface.
Maybe.... Extrapolating out the standard battery pack EPA estimates, the 20 "A/S" OEM gets you 390-395 miles of range when applied to the maxpack on R1S.

Now. Could those numbers be wrong? Of course. I still refuse to believe there isn't a 20" AS that blows by the 22" OEM AS by 6%. O think we may just haven't found it yet. Or we don't have enough data to back it up.

Like the look; are they much quieter?
Much quieter, though bear in mind we only rode on ATs for two days before changing them out. Still, a huge difference to us.

So there is now some debate here at the house about which wheel combo will be the best proxy for the defender / 20? Is it the Wrangler 20" All Season or the 22" on the new wheel change out? Would appreciate any thoughts.

QUIET!

After 14,000 miles. I replaced my Pirelli AT tires with the #1 Tire Rack rated Michelin Defender LTX M/2 tires.

I can now talk to my wife in a normal conversation and I don’t have to text a passenger in the back seat.

The difference in range is inconsequential minutia.

I now have an additional 6,000 miles of anywhere I wanted to go in peace and quite.

Dune is a color that doesn't photograph that well. With that said, I saw one at the SC yesterday and the color looks great in person.

I’m starting to wonder if anybody knows because i asked a similar question when the update came out and got the same response you did… crickets. I went to the same tire and size that you did from the 275/65/R20 Pirelli scorpion AT and told the rivian that i was running the wranglers but the speedo seems a little off so i’m at a loss for what to do next. Is the speedo off on purpose but the mileage is correct? It will take some experimenting to find out.

My 20" Defender LTX M/S2 has a diameter of 33" and 630 rev/mile. It looks like the 21" Road Perelli is 32.9" diameter and 632 revs/mile. I'll check the new speedometer accuracy with my Garmin.
