I’m a 2021 reservation holder with reduced pricing voucher, with the current leasing deals n full stealth package option I decided to take the plunge. I found a Quad Motor R1S that exactly matched my configuration and reserved it. It’s a great deal.

Now, I keep hearing the chatter about R1 refresh and the recent public forum inputs by Rivian’s Head of software about all the upgrades coming in.

All the reduced pricing voucher need to exercised by Sep 30, 2024. I can wait if the refresh is certain to come before September. Moreover, I believe if the refresh is coming then the deals would continue or even get better on the current R1S.

Any reservation holders in similar situation like me, What do you think? Wait or Buy now?

How much weight do these news about refreshes coming in next few month have?

I’m in the same boat as you and I’m waiting for a few reasons. 1. We have a Tesla Y and my wife loves it and will be reluctant to change to The R1S due to the size. 2. I have a Lightning and love it but I will probably sell it in September and get whatever the updated R1T Version is. There’s only 31 R1S‘ in inventory from what I’ve observe and under 200 R1T’s. They will probably cut deals on those on the side to get them sold and gone (look at the pricing of max pack 2023 R1T inventory to see what I mean). Then they will announce the updates and people will have buyers remorse. There may be price increases but I don’t think so And if I’m wrong, we love both our vehicles but with a 20% off coupon, we probably won’t let such a great deal expire. I’m hoping for: heat pump, NACS, tri-motor and the newer scroll wheels and expect to lose the speaker as standard.

Because I'm leasing an R1S for two years, I decided to do it now, and not wait for the refresh. I'm coming from an early build 2022 R1T I had purchased (and just sold) and will enjoy the improved build, dual motors and slightly extended range which work well for my needs.

I would just wait, at least until the earnings call on Tuesday. RJ might provide some context on the changes or reveal them altogether. Only speculation of course.

If you want quad, I would buy now.

I would be surprised to see any further deals, and it sounds like they don't stack with the coupon.

There is no guarantee that you'll like the changes made to the refresh.

I love my R1S, but if Hoon is right on Threads, and the refresh introduces a heat pump, then that would materially boost efficiency in the winter and is a significant upgrade.

Yeah, all speculation is pointing to a heat pump as part of the upgrade. Which makes sense since the R2 is going to have one, most likely already engineered and will share across platforms.

Man I'd be shocked if NACS makes it into a 2024 refresh but I love the hope! I'm with you, let's hope for it haha.

Especially since it appears Tesla is intentionally delaying release of adapters....the major turn of events with the firing of the charging team.....Tesla sales are off.....so maybe that all adds up to Tesla changing course and deciding to keep the Supercharging network as a competitive advantage and backtracking on even making the Superchargers available to other manufacturers.

I pulled the trigger and leased, I do not believe 95 percent of what they are talking impacts the end user experience in Rivian. Also with kine changes and a few other items I would skip the first 10k of production. Rumor of tri-motor in my opinion is major at 800 hp...all in all your money I choose to go with a 2024 and not chase the re-fresh
