Need help please... Experiencing constant locking / unlocking while parked in home garage when my wife or I walk past Gen 2 R1S with iPhone key in hand or pocket. Honestly, I thought that I had solved proximity sensor issue months ago but it seems this could be a different problem. Possibly a result of recent software update.

While looking at maps on R1S display, I noticed that my vehicle thinks it is 300 feet away from home, when it is actually parked in our garage. That explains the constant proximity sensor locking / unlocking; however, it doesnt make sense geographically. To rule out google maps data misalignment, I googled my home address and it correctly ties pin to my house. We are in suburban Orange County so I assume GPS data should be reasonably good quality. I also restarted R1S and the problem persists.

Forgive me if this issue has been previously posted and addressed. I could not find a similar thread.

Thank you in advance for solutions.

I also have this problem since the latest update. Thanks for the suggestion about the car's position being inaccurate - that helps me know it's not that it's forgetting I don't have proximity lock enabled at home - it's that it doesn't know it's at home!

My maps position is also about 300ft away from where the car actually is...

There was a recent thread about people having bad GPS location reported while in their garage. Not sure if this is from a recent update or the same thing I experience when driving off the ferry when I'm on the interior car deck.

The workaround is to use a setting that disables proximity locking at home. It’s not ideal, but it does avoid the constant locking and unlocking. As a result, you need to be sure to lock your car the old fashioned way when you park it outside your house on the street. If you happen to have a second home, you need to switch your home location when you get there. It’s all part of the package deal!

I think the point here is that thats not working for some as the GPS lock is off when parked in a garage - so the R1 is not behaving as though its at home. Perhaps a mitigation would be for the scope of home to fallback to also using a known WIFI SSID/Connection in the event of GPS lock degradation?

I've had the same problem as the OP, since day 1 of purchase 10 months ago. There are some related Reddit threads on this, but I haven't seen any solutions. The service center said this was addressed when they replaced my ECM under recall but that didn't help.

I have my settings to "lock only" at home, but it keeps unlocking anyway every time I am nearby or even upstairs. When I check the app it always says my car is home when it is garaged, so it knows it is home.

Let us know if anyone receives a real solution from Rivian. I'm having the same problem since Google took over from Mapbox. I live down a long driveway that Google doesn't 'see'. So, my R1T thinks I live at a neighbors house. Besides the locking nuisance, I can't set up a charging schedule because the charger doesn't think I'm at home.

To make it more confusing… I also use at home lock only option and my Rivian shows my far away neighbor as my location of garage. But it works as intended: it locks itself at home, it never opens any door when I walk by with phone at home.

But today a strange thing happened while I was at grocery parking lot. After I exited it didn’t automatically lock with a bluebird chirp as it always had done upto that point. Instead on my phone it notified me that my car is unlocked and make sure to check no valuables in car. Why Rivian can’t get this door open/close thing right. It’s been years.

There are two things I did simultaneously, that may have helped improve the R1S ability to recognize when it was in my garage (instead of thinking it is across the street or 2 blocks away).

1. I reset settings "settings->vehicle->service->clear settings". This fixed Apple Music oddness, found from this Reddit Thread, but it may have had an impact on GPS location.

2. I changed my Rivian to use a 5ghz home wifi network, forcing it away from a 2.4ghz network. 5ghz networks have less range, so the Rivian has to be closer to my home to know that it is home. It doesn't seem to think it is across the street anymore.

Unsure of these have solved it for me. It's only been a week, but I subjectively haven't noticed my Rivian unlocking itself in my garage when I'm upstairs (when I have the lock only at home setting enabled).
