I split a pair of crossbars with a friend, so now we each have 3 on our R1S's. Of course the new key did not match the key to my original 2 crossbars.

Rivian R1T R1S R1S: Three Cargo Crossbars on one Key tutorial : 2023-11-24 009

Using the Tutorial I found Here :

http://biobug.org/index.php/2008/12/19/how-to-key-match-your-own-yakima-locks/

I was able to modify the lock cylinders in the third crossbar to work with the same key as my original set at zero cost (but I own a 3D printer). Fun short project. (or you could just pay for new matching cylinders)

In a nutshell:

Unlock your third Cargo Bar cylinders with the appropriate key.
To remove the cylinders you will need a Yakima control key.
With the lock open, and the control key inserted, the cylinder will twist and then slide out of the cargo bar.
You can buy Yakima contol keys online they are part of their "Same Key System" or SKS.
I 3D printed mine in PTEG (about 8 Minutes)- from a free download on thingiverse. It worked well.

Once removed, put your main key in the third cargo bars cylinder. With the native (original) key inserted all tumbers will be flush with the cylinder allowing it rotate, with the new key, the key to your other two crossbars, some tumblers will still be raised-- file them down with your dremel so they are flush with the cylinder (other tumblers will still rise up when the key is pulled out -check before filing-and these will still lock the cylinder). Don't file down the end tumbler , this is what the control key uses to lock the cylinder into its hole. I added a drop of oil before putting the cylinders back in with the control key.

Took about 5 minutes per cylinder.

If you don't want to DIY this You can remove one of your original cylinders with a control key. The side of the cylinder has the SKS key number on its side and you could just order cylinders that fit that key code.

Hope someone enjoys this.

Where's the fun in that?

Are the three cross bars all level with each other? Considering a skycamp 3.0 on three cross bars and wondering

Front two cerossbars appear level with each other front to back, but they are higher in the middle than on the sides. The rear cross bar is lower than the front and middle by about an inch.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, that helps. Given the length of the RTT that I’m eyeing, I’ll mount them on the front and rear. Cheers!
