R1T Green License Plates in Ontario

I recently found out that the R1T is now eligible for a green plate in Ontario, and switched mine today. For those of you who received prior to November 2024, you can go to the MTO service locations and swap plates. Unfortunately getting a green license plate doesn't change the fact that you need a "commercial" sticker on your plate which costs something like $250 / year. But at least you can drive on the highway HOV lanes solo.

I think technically you can only drive solo on HOV lanes where permitted. Not all are when I first looked into this. 401 is good but signage seems limited to one just prior to them starting. Not sure about the 403. That said, the number of violations I see on any given commute are pretty extreme. The gov't passes laws and the enforcers decide what suits them.

Confirming they now come with green plates, but the $265/year fee does apply as it's over the 3,000kg limit. You get a sticker to apply to the front plates. Yes, you can drive in the HOV lane with green plates even if you're by yourself (at the date of this posting).
