4Runner, Stingray
Form submitted. Waited a long time for the right successor for my 2006 4Runner and it looks like the R2 fits the bill. In fact, the R2 sizing, operational rear window, almost seems like the 4Runner was part of the inspiration. Once Toyota went Turbo V4 for their new 4Runners, I was out.
I am the same boat, although my 4Runner is a 5th Gen. The functional rear window is something I use all them time. I have a reservation for an R2.

Wow! My husband and I are having some serious (for him, this is BIG! He never opens that kimono!) talks about upgrading his 2015 Nissan Rogue. We put in a reservation for an R2S, but he fears that it's not going to be any bigger than the Rogue, and he wants to go BIGGER. We are heading to the New York International Auto Show next week, and we hope that Rivian is there and that perhaps a prototype of the R2S will be on display. That will make or break if we wait on the 2026 production of the vehicle, or order an R1S.

Wow! My husband and I are having some serious (for him, this is BIG! He never opens that kimono!) talks about upgrading his 2015 Nissan Rogue. We put in a reservation for an R2S, but he fears that it's not going to be any bigger than the Rogue, and he wants to go BIGGER. We are heading to the New York International Auto Show next week, and we hope that Rivian is there and that perhaps a prototype of the R2S will be on display. That will make or break if we wait on the 2026 production of the vehicle, or order an R1S.
According to the NYAS website, Rivian isn't going to be there. If they are the R2 probably won't be there as it's already made a pass through NYC, and I think the only real prototype was damaged a few weeks ago.

Also made my reservation April 7th and filled out the new order form. Previously owned Tesla Model 3 SR and a 2023 model Y performance. Traded the Y in on the new Jeep Wagoneer S that had a mechanical failure 5 days in and unwound the deal. Driving my 2021 Cadillac XT6 waiting on the Rivian R2!

Thank you, this is nice and all, but won't know until we lay eyes on it. He's thinking he wants BIGGER; I think he's looking the size of an R1S. We had an Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition many years ago that was like driving Air Force One. Though it was mechanically a disaster, when it drove, you felt like you were in something, and it was quite roomy inside for long trips. He's been jonesing for something along those lines.

I suspect if the NYIAS is a bust (prior post indicates Rivian won't be there), we're going to schedule a test drive of and R1S in Boston. Let him make up his mind about what he wants.

There are posts on this forum with outline pictures lined up against some other (currently available) vehicles for size comparison. It looks to be about the same size as a Model Y (obviously different shape) or Jeep cherokee. If you want "bigger" then R2 might not be right and you should be looking at R1S (although that's close to 2x the cost).
We hit the NY Intl. Auto Show a could weeks ago. We were totally underwhelmed by the EV's on display and on test drive; across all makes and models. With all the tariff panic talk and the prices starting to jack up, we're going to nurse a couple more years out of the 2015 Nissan Rogue. We'll revisit when the R2S comes out next year.
