Does someone else have a patent on non-removable windows that don't leak air, make a ton of noise, and break easily?

Assuming that all of the problems with the current, much simpler, windows is not due to Rivian avoiding someone else's patent on windows that don't suck, I am not sure I am excited by Rivian exploring more complex window designs.

What are the odds that these articulating windows are less problematic than the fixed windows they are replacing?

Our gx470 has much more wind noise than the Rivian ever had. I put extra weatherstripping on the Rivian to make it even more quiet. I think it's the quietest brick.

Am I reading this right to indicate that the rear windows on the R2 that will open out will also be removable?
I know this sounds picky, but: no you are reading about a patented invention of rear windows that open out and are also removable and have other properties that may or may not be integral to the invention.

A patent is not a public statement that a future product will actually incorporate the patent. It is not required that a patent holder ever productize the patent. It is common for a company to patent things it might use and for whatever reason for that patent to never end up in use by the company. (for example they come up with an even better idea, or the patented idea doesn’t work as well as originally thought, or costs too much to produce, or they find it builds on a patented idea someone else has and the someone else won’t license it at a rate they find reasonable)

Why would anyone want to remove these windows? Pop-out makes perfect sense. Removing them? I don't see a good reason for that. Am I missing something?

Leasing Tesla Model 3 until Rivian R3X comes out.
Idea is great, but they always end up rattling
Yeah, I remember my parents’ minivan having these pop-out windows in the back and over years of use they did eventually start rattling when open.
