Does Rivian navigation have real time traffic info baked in? My 2022 Tesla does … my friend with a R1T says Rivian does not have it … ?

That would be 10 steps backward to start propping up my phone to use Waze whenever my R1S Launch Edition finally arrives s00n next year

Yes it has RT traffic info... Make sure you enable traffic. It is off by default. Tap the map settings button, then toggle "Traffic" on.

As @CommodoreAmiga it's there, but it's quite inconsistent in how well it picks of the amount of traffic.

It only shows when there is heavy traffic which is worrisome as when it’s blank you don’t know if it’s not working on not traffic. Also, if you’re in navigation it doesn’t suggest reroute if traffic gets worse.

Hopefully the navigation gets better. Right now I load the nav on screen and turn off the sound, then load wave through my phone for Bluetooth to the speakers. On a recent trip Waze got me there in 2.5 hours, 3 hours back. Rivians nav had me at 4.5 hours there and 5 hour back. It needs some serious work.

Holy cow that’s a huge difference!
And that’s what I was kinda afraid of …. :(

Im sure it’ll get better over time, but it makes a series of silly decisions right now. It will often route me off and right back on, or as others have said it detects traffic but doesn’t actually reroute.

FWIW, I still use it. Especially on trips that are less than 1 hour. It’s not a huge deal with those as its only minutes off. But if I was driving more than an hour I’d use Waze.

No built-in GPS I've ever had is ever as good as google maps or waze, so I find myself always using my phone instead of the vehicle GPS when it matters.

From my experience the only navigation app that has ever actually gotten the traffic thing right is Waze. I’m sure there are others that work but Waze has such a great integration rerouting options along with accurate traffic conditions. It has saved me countless hours over the years. It’s funny to watch certain vehicles get off the highway at the same exit before a big jam and then see on the app that it’s almost all Waze users.

I can't comment on how well it works but the first time I used the Rivian nav on a "real" trip was Monday, while driving from Anacortes to Lynnwood on the SR20/I5. My R1T asked if I wanted to reroute due to traffic in the Everett/Lynnwood area (half-way through the trip, and I did nothing to instigate it). A dialog box popped up in the lower left and after I accepted, it changed the route to take Evergreen Way.

Waze frequently does stupid on/off routings for me. A 5 minute twisty route to avoid a 2 minute slow down on a highway. I know lots of people love Waze, but every time I use it, it reminds me of why I don’t use it. im looking forward to seeing what Rivian provides.

Yep. I don't understand the love for Waze. When I tried it, the directions it gave were insane.

Are you sure the rivian wasn’t on avoid highways or avoid tolls? I did that once and could figure out why it want me to take back roads.

That’s awesome. The problem with adding so many OTA updates that sometimes something will get upgraded and we don’t know. I love the improvements though.
