Searched but didn't find anything recent on the topic. I noticed after recently handing off our R1S to a valet that there were very few Gear Guard videos in a very high traffic area. Anyone know if there is a way to search and recover deleted videos? Spidey sense kicked in for some reason and it got me wondering.

They probably never locked it so no gear guard?
There were a few videos so it was locked. Normally there would be much more as cars come/go and people walk by. There were no issues with the vehicle, it just got me thinking/wondering.

Gear Guard Motion Cam videos store to the internal file system. We don't have access to that system so, no, there would be no practical way for an owner to recover deleted items. If they were stored on removable media, however, it would be a trivial exercise with modern digital forensic tools.

There are many free and paid recovery tools out there that will scan the disk for deleted files and attempt a recovery. Some will let you preview what the scan finds and then offer you the ability to purchase a license to recover them.

That said, if new videos have been written over the cells/sectors where the old videos resided, there would be little chance to recover. It may show that files actually were deleted, however.

I have removable media installed, but I assume it doesn't store there by default. Is that correct?

For Motion Cam specifically, they only save there if you specifically copy the recorded video. Drive Cam does store there by default.
