No way in hell those things will do anything for hail large enough to actually do damage.
Mine picked up 2 hood dents from quarter sized hail in Oklahoma yesterday. That sheet metal is thin.

60 psi….lol
Not sure why there is an lol here ? They are rated to 80psi just like my Coopers (pictured). Nittos in OP truck look excellent!

I run my 80psi rated Coopers at 60-65 psi daily for 8,000 miles. Load range E tires, are 'designed' for the higher pressure applications because of the load possibilities the tires can operate in. I have unmeasurable loss of range running at this range and my ride is comfy and wear is 'better' than the 20 AT's from the factory.

I'm going to try 70psi in my next range test track run next week....Load range E tires are a great addition to our possibilities.

Typically you don't see damage until you have 1" hail...which is basically the diameter of a quarter, so no unexpected.

My f150 was considerably more resilient. But this far hail resistance is the only thing at which it was superior. Other than the range of course.

Haven't washed it yet, but you can barely see them.

Got some new tires on my ATs today. Nitto Recon Grappler LT 275/65/R20. Currently running them at 60psi.

To get the obvious questions out of the way. They do have a bit more road noise but I was running the 21s before this but I think they are louder than the Pirelli ATs. No idea on the efficiency loss yet.

Some eye candy for the masses taken in a hail storm with high Suspension

That's odd, did you get the OEM 275/65/R20. Other than tread depth they are identically sized at least according to literature. Are you talking about sport mode in lowest suspension? I've heard of that happening to peeps on the OEM Pirellis but never happened to me (with the exception of when my suspension was broken)

Looking sharp though, I like those rims.

Yeah thinking studded for winter. No issues with ride quality, I’m running 60 due to the extra weight of my setup.
Have you heard about anyone who currently runs studded 20" tires? I just got my R1T three weeks ago and already realize the Scorpions won't do for next winter in Montana. My plan is to run them for the summer and then switch to studded Cooper Discoverer Snow Claws, which have been a successful choice on my 2008 Tundra and my 2003 Land Cruiser. Any thoughts on your studded tire choice?

I can't say I recall a specific report of 20" studded on a Rivian but I'm sure it's been done, I know Out of Spec Kyle was running 22" studded Nokian's on his R1T.

I will assess my options in the fall with my tire guy. Today I'd probably lean towards a studded 20" Nokian Hakkapeliitta, ive got a set of 21s too so if someone released a studded winter tire in that size i'd jump all over it but suspect that will not happen.

For what it's worth (and I know there are differing opinions) I spent a lot of time in and out of the snow line this winter on the OEM 20" Pirelli's and thought they handled quite well.

How are you liking the Recon Grapplers?

I see they now come in a 275/65R20 116T rating. Not LT but only 47 lbs and still have 55,000 mile warranty.

Only weirdness is they’re only rated to 44psi, but the load rating at that PSI is the same as the OEM Pirellis.

No complaints really. If I were to buy again I might try the Toyo Open Country AT3 due to more sipping, for a summer tire these have performed quite well in mud and rough roads. I did get stuck in some sand a few weeks ago but I don't think different tires would have helped that much.

Personally I wanted the E load rating because I think it will hold up better to the weight of the truck which in my case is nominally 8k.

Now that I drove these around for a few thousand miles and also spent some time switched back to my 21s a couple of observations about the Nitto Recon Grappler's.

1. They can get a little squirely on the highway on rougher roads, I assume this is due to the aggressive tread pattern. Its not something I recall on the 20" Pirelli ATs.
2. The difference in efficiency of the Nitto Recon Grappler vs the 21" Pirelli AS tires is about 14% (1.64 vs. 1.9 mi/kWh) - Note the lower number is due to aero effects from my camper shell. This is also an upper bound since I spent more time off road on the 20" Nitto's.
