Back in March, a design prototype that clearly was not the R1T or R1S was spied inside Rivian's workshop. It was speculated to possibly be the model which will come after the R1T and R1S. At last year's LA Auto Show, British mag Autocar wrote: “Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe said that the model to follow its initial R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV would be ‘bananas’ in the way it performed.” Scaringe was quoted as saying: “The third vehicle will have a smaller wheelbase [than the R1S SUV] and will be the Rivian interpretation of a rally car with a lot of ground clearance.” The article goes on to further call it a “rally-raid style performance car.”

The description of Rivian’s promised third model is largely consistent with what was spotted inside Rivian's workshop. The arching roofline is certainly car-like, and a departure from the R1T and R1S. And those supposed flared front fenders—one can make the case that they further support the promise of a Rally-Raid model being fettled as Rivian’s third model offering.

With that in mind, we finally took mouse to screen to conjure up our interpretation of how cool a rally style Rivian could look, based on the spied design prototype and Scaringe's words -- essentially a rally-raid style performance Rivian with high ground clearance.

Enjoy!

That's a very cool render, I hope the actual isn't far off.

These artists need to get to work on renders of Rivian's hopeful competitor to the Jeep Wrangler!

Seems like the perfect vehicle to deal with both the potholes, and crumbling infrastructure of Detroit. If it's cheaper than a Safari 911, it might be just the thing I want. :)

I'm in if it checks the following boxes.

Under 50K
0-60 in 3 sec (or less)
At least 400 mile range with smallest battery (getting 600 with the largest battery option would be awesome)
12” of ground clearance (or ride height adjustability if less)
A nice size Frunk
A small tailgate to sit on post Rally
Lay flat 2nd row seats (so with the tailgate/ hatch open and an oem offered tent accessory attached) one can camp in the back of it.
Tank mode
Screw the solar charging capability, give me some removable t-tops for open air rallying! (store the top panels in the frunk when removed)
An overall width that allows it to fit on all the Jeep and SxS trails (where the R1T and R1S can't fit)

R1R, do it!
