VIN 11919 and no 12V outlet. But I do have some good news... the wiring is there. It's bundled with the right LED frunk light. Looks like whatever connector they used was cut off (or yanked off, as bare copper strands were exposed) and "protected" with electrical tape. Probably the most shotty work I've seen in a brand new (modern) car :D

Anyway, here are some photos showing available wiring. This is good for us without the 12V outlet, as we can now use something like this or this, and mount as it was from the factory, or mount it on the frunk tub vertically.

Seems like it would be trivial to re-add it. Won't be OEM but if you actually need to use it, that hardly matters.

Totally - it definitely won't be an OEM Rivian-like installation, but I've found a few other OEM options that use some sort of harness connector, and not typical spade connectors. I even found that that used Deutsch connectors, as a last resort.

Has anyone who’s taken delivery recently checked to see if this wiring is still there? I’m curious if Rivian intends to keep installing it or if the goal was to remove the outlet and the wiring over time.

R1T VIN 12375 here. Can confirm wiring is still there. I’ll be retrofitting an outlet.

Thank you! Should be a pretty simple job but if you are able to share how you finish your outlet I’d love to see it.

If only we could find out where Rivian sources their 12V outlets...

I found this OEM Ford outlet for $20 on eBay. Closest thing to OEM Rivian I could find.

This *is* promising. Are the lights fastened in such a way that removing them would pose any difficulty? When you say 'right', do you mean driver's side (right when you're looking at the frunk) or passenger side (right if you're the truck)?

I'm pretty keen to throw this in as a small mod if mine (12xxx) has the wiring, but am slightly worried about poking holes in a truck with <200 mi on it - or worse, voiding some aspect of the warranty.

Quick edit, since the light turned out to be pretty obvious and straightforward:

I wish they would communicate these changes clearly and share the justification/rationale behind them.

We can all speculate on why and how much it saves them per truck, but a little transparency here would go a long way.
Agreed.

For example the elimination of the 12v could be as simple as Rivian contracting for the tub from a different vendor and supplying an outdated spec/drawing. If no one realized a simple mistake until the parts showed up it might have been either delete by clipping the wire or delaying production.

The way the wire has been handled the delete does not *appear* to have been planned. At least not well implemented.

Lack of timely information leads to all sorts of speculation (including the above) and problems. Rivian is most certainly not alone in what appears to be their belief that the "truth" is more painful than the resultant speculation.

They are wrong and there are (rare) exceptions in the world. Rivian could still be one if they desired.

UPDATE: 12V Outlet delivered and installed.

I'm waiting to receive the OEM pigtail I ordered. It will be as close to OEM as I can make it.

BE CAREFUL where you drill your hole! Where I put mine is as close to the left when looking over it as you want to be. It's about where I could tell the Rivian one is located. There is a plastic separator below just to the left, on the inside. You will drill into it if you go too far left. Hope that makes sense... I'm not liable if you drill incorrectly...

I chose these two parts and they happen to be for 2 car brands but the pigtail looks to be an exact fit. I imagine they all use the same manufacturers for this stuff.

Yes, good point. Everyone who has had the 12v removed has this new magnet design. I concur it feels pretty strong so no complaints there.
What do you have if not the magnet, and what's the purpose of the magnet, just to hold the carpeted cover down?
