So I am going back and forth with Rivian service. When charging at home, after approximately one hour the charging slows to 5-6 kw from the usual 10-11 kw. Displays the ”slowing error”. In response to Rivian, I have tried a Chargepoint level 2 with no slowing error. and for good measure I Tesla level 3. No slowing occurred. To me, this indicated a problem with my wall charger, but Rivian wants me to bring it in as opposed to forwarding to home charging team. Thoughts?

Can you test the charging speed for your EVSE on another EV? That should confirm that it is the Rivian charger.

AFAIK, there is no way for a Level 2 "charger" ( your EVSE) to throttle it's charge, it's an on or off device.
It "advertises" it's available top current setting to the vehicle upon plug in and it's up to the vehicle to throttle the current down from there as it sees fit. If throttling is occurring, it's 100% on the vehicle because the EVSE does not have the ability to vary it's current.

While it's true that the vehicle is what throttles the current, what triggers a throttled session can certainly be a fault in the EVSE or its related infrastructure. My Model S would throttle if I plugged it into a 14-50 in my father's garage. I could see the voltage start to sag as the current ramped up, and the car throttled back to prevent excess voltage droop. The car and EVSE were both fine - the infrastructure just couldn't support the current.

If OP can charge at equal power elsewhere for the same amount of time or longer, it sounds it's a fault of the EVSE, its wiring/breaker, or a product of the environment where the vehicle and EVSE are located. Bringing the truck in sounds like a waste of everyone's time.

That happens to me every time during the summer/fall that I charge. I ended up setting up a small fan aimed at the plug to keep temps down and it stays at ~11kw
I did the same as it always comes back to a heat issue in the garage (~90+degrees in the summer). The fan on the port seems to almost always prevent the reduction of charging speed.

Crazy thought here, but does the NACS adapter work with a level 2 charger? If so, no harm in trying it.. If the Rivian is sensing a plug that's too warm, then this might work...

I have noticed mine will slow down with direct sun non hot days - but not at night.

I’m jealous!! Mine does it around 75-80.

If the wall charger is plugged in so to speak via 14-50 or the like then you should only run it at 40 amps. Otherwise 48 amps is OK with a 60 amp breaker and heavier wiring. The 20% overage is standard to sustain 48 amp charging or it will overheat.

Now, I've never had a Rivian charger fail, but my Tesla portable 14-50 adapter failed two times which is where they measure the heat.

All that said, I'll bet on your wiring is insufficient or your charger is not working properly. It's not your vehicle.

A test for shits and giggles. If you have your R1 set to charge at 48 amps then lower it to charge at 40 amps only. I bet it doesn't overheat then. Temporary solution while you fight with Rivian.

This is definitely a common issue.. I have it here too with a Tesla Wall Charger and Lectron adapter… almost always 1 hour into a session.

Had big problem when I moved my charger to a new location. On a new
14-50 circuit it was charging 2 mph, but the bigger problem was reaching the charging group at Rivian. It took 2 weeks and 2 minutes to fix. They are siloed and can't be reached directly. It took 2 weeks to have them call me and 2 minutes for the tech person to fix the problem which was buried in the setting. Completely fixed, but very frustrating getting ther
