Priced at $2,800 and says it’s almost sold out. This is essentially a $300 premium to get a Rivian logo, a better color, and mounts that work with the Rivian crossbars. It’s a great tent, but it’s a bummer that it’s $300 more than the non-Rivian Skyrise HD 3. I’m still likely going to buy it though!

does this fit over the r1t bed? I notice the picture seems to imply it will?

It does. They won't directly sell it for the R1T because it restricts the upper rear brake lights, hence the R1S "version"

Yeah, it fits perfect. The Skyrise 3 HD is the Skyrise 3 with much superior waterproofing. Here’s some pics of the Skyrise 3 on mine for some adventures. Mounting on the bed like that only results in a range reduction of about 0.25-0.30 miles per kWh. For example, 2.5 miles per kWh without tent vs 2.25 miles per kWh with tent.

You're the first person I've seen mount their RTT with rear access. Interesting idea.

That's the price I got the Condor Overland for on sale. Much rather have a RTT with aluminum shell with T slots to attach items

It makes getting stuff in and out of the bed more difficult, but it also allows me to deploy in areas I couldn’t if it opened the typical way to the side. I do a lot of trail races and sometimes there’s a parking lot (such as above) and sometimes there’s just a very narrow shoulder on some old fire road. I can deploy without issue in those types of situations, so I have to sacrifice a bit of convenience. However, you can deploy, sit under the tent, and use the tailgate as a table if you get caught in a sudden mountain rainstorm or also put up the tailgate altogether and have even more covered shelter. The gear tunnel doors make it very easy to pack the tent since you have a place to step.

Regardless of how it’s mounted though, it’s an extremely comfortable and roomy tent. I got the Skyrise 3 used for cheap to see if I would like it…I’m totally sold on the RTT game now. I’ve had my eye on the Rivian one for a while because our trucks can’t fit a 3 person hardshell RTT over the bed and the Skyrise HD is waterproof even without a rainfly (the Condor 2 is close to being a 3 person tent, but out of my price range anyway). The Rivian version will easily fit the crossbars…mine does too, but it’s a huge PITA.

Sure but bed access is more difficult. And my trick to get the dogs in thru the side window from the tailgate wouldn't work

Yeah, I use my tailgate and bed for my kitchen basically, so I'm not sure how useful it would be for me personally. However, being able to use spaces like @Rivdog described is a great perk.

With regard to the brake light issue, I used this:

https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Covers/Pilot-Automotive/CR-007.html

which admittedly isn't up high as the rear window brake light, but did add an extra brake light to the rear of the truck. I would think with an extended plug, one could mount this thing up higher, perhaps even zip tied or otherwise attached to the tent itself.

If you anyone decides to go this route, you'll need one of these:

https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Wiring/Pollak/PK12716.html

to plug into the Rivian's rear plug. It's the setup I used, I just left the light in the hitch. It's pretty bright and hard to miss.

I have the Thule Tepui Kukenam 3 tent which works just great. Price at purchase (1/23) and seemingly right now was/is $1299. I can't see that the Yakima is any better at $2800.

Specs for the Thule are very similar to the Yakima. I've never side-by-sided them, but I've no complaints with my setup.

Others have reported that plugging into the trailer harness causes reduced features, such as D+ not working
