Hi Everyone

We are thinking of taking a trip from Chicago to Tennessee over Thanksgiving this year. When I look at all the apps (including onboard navigation) there wasn't a way to look for a charging station by number of chargers. My concern is going to ome with 4 and having to wait etc. Is this something that can be searched?

I'm not sure what you mean by all the apps, but one of the most popular app that folks use with EVs is PlugShare. They list the number of chargers and what plug types. The reviews left by people are also super useful when planning out an EV road trip.

That is an easy trip. I just finished a trip going around the US from CA to the East coast going through the upper part of the country and returning through the lower part. I found in the Midwest and south most of the stations are pretty open.

I always us ABRP ( A Better Route Planner) for my trips. You can setup your vehicle and preferred charging networks and it will map out the route with suggested stops. You can click on the suggested charging locations and get more detail on the station. You can also zoom in and see other locations in the area that support the vehicle you have configured.

Not sure what cities but here are a couple of screenshots between Chicago and Nashville. If you have not used it yet I suggest giving it a try. I’ve used it for many EV trips in my Tesla as well as my Rivian including trips of 5500, 6500, and 7400 miles.

This is with Rivian as first preference and EA as second preference.

You can also set the filter in PlugShare to only display a certain Station Count. The options are 2+, 4+, or 6+. (The default is "Any"). You can use this to filter out locations that only have 2 pedestals, for example.

I don’t know this route specifically, but my experience with roadtrips is that you only find busy chargers in major urban areas.

Chargers along freeways between cities are barely used.

Get a NACS/CCS adapter and you will be fine. Stop at places with bathrooms & food. Looks like an easy trip.
