Running Board Install - Plastic Piece Off or On?

For those w/running boards installed, did you put back the plastic or just leave it off?

I installed mine last week. Mine is a lease so I can't really cut the plastic trim. I'm planning to get mud flaps and then washing regularly to protect the underside. ?
It has been said before but the plastic covers are useless. When I installed my rock sliders the plastic pieces had 1/2" of mud/dust caked on the inside.

The only reason I cut mine and put them back on was to protect it from Rocks. My thought process was that rocks might strike and damage the ecoating...which could then lead to corrosion. This may not be an issue though especially if you do mostly on road driving.

If your leasing just leave them off and if you turn it in you will likely remove the runners and put them back.

I have the DCE sliders and reinstalled the plastic panels. I fully understand they are mostly aesthetic, but I feel better having them on there. It took a lot of cutting, and I added some rivet nuts in existing holes on the sliders to attach the panels. They are every bit as solid as the original installation.

Thanks. I just ordered a set of the same DCE sliders and plan to reuse the plastic panels similar to how you did.
