I don't like or need the spare hanging off the back, I hope that's an option. I guess I just called myself out for not being a hard core off roader :D
I've always been a fan of rear spare tire carriers. Very few vehicles have them today, but Land Rover went that way with the Defender and I love the way it looks. Of course Wrangler and Bronco too. And you get a spare that matches the other wheels and tires exactly which is great too.

Even made tech blogs:
https://techcrunch.com/2024/10/24/s...ncludes-a-model-with-a-gas-powered-generator/

I think the generator option is a great idea too...suspension will likely be more reliable than an air suspension but not as fancy.

At first I thought this was a rebadged R2. If not, I think it's serious Rivian competition as well.
VW has a better service network, assuming Scouts can be serviced there...and they won't have panel misalignments... ?

They said "air suspension" during the event.

The only threat to Rivian is Rivian screwing the pooch by focusing on anything but making and selling profitable excellent vehicles. I am not in the car business but it seems like they should shelve the Ran, Gear, spaces and any other BS until they are making money.
And maybe get the service side of the business to where it needs to be.

I just rented a brand new Defender for a recent trip from the airport, and it still comes with one....horrible gas mileage though!

Ever heard of the phrase, "gotta spend money to make money"?

Retail spaces are needed to sell and promote. If you don't sell and promote (part of brand building) your sales will suffer. Some cars sell themselves, but you can't put all of your eggs in that basket (and hope for the best). The big 3 still advertise even when they know they have a winner—"make hay while sun shines".

Everyone and anyone who has ever started/run a business knows: it's a game of "I've got 99 problems, which ones do I [spend to] solve first without losing the entire plot?"

RAN can scale back, and they most likely have already done so already. It's not like there is news of new RAN locations every single week. There clearly hasn't been.

Everything you or any Joe have thought of, Rivian likely has already thought of and is doing (within their actual and functional limits).

None of us from the outside should presume to know better. We don't see/know their balance sheets, down to the penny.

Yeah, I was talking about the new Defender. I probably should have clarified that. The flat rear end with spare tire in back looks awesome on the new Defender. It's a great look.

Good points. The Spaces are not effective sales tools. Service and quality are hurting them much more than spaces are helping. I realize they are smart people however that doesn't always equate to equally as good operators.

How do you know they are not effective sales tools? What is Rivian's ROI on spaces? Unless you can give me hard numbers you don't know if they are effective sales tools or not. It isn't a matter of opinion, there is a concrete answer.
