On most 4/all wheel drive vehicles a single tire replacement can only be done if the tread depth difference between new and old is very close due to differential stress issues and possible driving dynamics issues. It would seem a quad motor R1 might not care about that. Has any guidance been issued on that? Does the R1 simply recalibrate the circumference after a tire change?

Interested if anyone gets an answer from Rivian on this. Mechanically since nothing is linked it wouldn't be an issue. But I'm guessing the wheel speed sensors would make the computer freak out beyond some level of difference and possibly make the stability/traction control behave strangely. So I'd venture there is a limit, but if it's not in the manual, Rivian should clarify.

My focus RS allows any single tire at any state of wear to be replaced.

since the R1T has 4 separate motors, surely the system is smart enough to accommodate a slight difference in diameter?
there’s no mention in the manual

if you have a spare, and don’t do 5 tire rotation, what happens when the spare is pressed in to service?

I have a friend with AT’s who has 11,000 miles on his truck (did a loop of the US) and just replaced the front tires, only the fronts due to wear. He strongly suggests rotating every 5,000 miles. Right after you change the oil ;)
