Hello all long time lurker and rare poster. After a year and a half of ownership I decided to sell my R1T and purchase a GMC Sierra EV. I loved my Rivian and had no complaints during my ownership. There was so much I loved about the R1T that I will miss but weighing the pros and cons the GMC was a better truck for what I need.

I learned a lot from this community that enhanced my Rivian experience. I also had some good laughs at some of the dust up’s over differences of opinions. Thanks again and I wish you all well!

Hey there! Sorry to see you leave the Rivian community but as someone who also owns a Silverado EV (sister truck to the Sierra EV) I can tell you that it’s a great truck.

Maybe will see you over on the Silverado EV forum?

I've always wondered why people feel the need to tell us they're leaving. It's not like any of really know each other and will miss anyone who leaves. :D

disregard, he was very wholesome compared to most that post similar things.

Some people use "Social" forums to be social.
I have a buddy I MTB with a couple times a week, camp with once a month, and do other non Rivian/outdoorsy shit with.

I met him here on this forum.

I’d be curious to see that list.

To be clear I loved my R1T and had nothing seriously go wrong with it and when it did the service center was quick to respond. The only complaint would have been that when my 12v battery died they wanted to wait two weeks to come replace it. Once I explained my situation they adjusted and came within a few days.

The “pros” for the GMC really came down to size and range. I live in Nashville but work in Cincinnati Just out of range for the Rivian so had to stop and charge every time and that became a pain. If the suggested mileage was accurate that would not have been an issue. The size part really comes down to cabin space more than bed space. We have two Great Danes and while they could ride in the R1T it was a pain and the amount of prep to get them in meant I didn’t take them much.

Once I test drove the GMC I knew I needed to switch. It isn’t as snappy and has its own quirks but I feared it would feel huge and it does not the rear steering makes a huge difference.

The software is not even in the same league as Rivian and I will miss how what was good to begin with got even better over time. I think I will be lucky to get quarterly updates on the GMC software. I do however like having some physical buttons and I won’t miss the twitchyness of the phone being my key with the Rivian.

I will miss the gear tunnel too but the huge bed and over 6 inches more height under the cover will hopefully make up for it.

Probably more than you wanted but those were the big things.

Why do you think you're allowed to leave? :p

You must report back in 6 months on your experience with your Sierra EV.

There is a lot I like about it.

I'll probably never get a GMC product but occasionally I go "hmmm" to a GM product. The Sierra EV is the "hmm" product of the now. The height under the cover is a big plus of the Sierra. How small the height of the R1T is drives me nuts.

Maybe at some point I'll have a Sierra EV and a Rivian R2.
