Yesterday, out of the blue, a warning message popped up on the driver's side display of my R1T that said something like: "SOS Call Button malfunction, service immediately." I was in my driveway at the time, and had just put the truck in reverse to back out. I tried to grab my phone to take a picture, but the message was up only momentarily.

I haven't contacted service yet, since I can't recall the actual verbiage of the warning message, and the truck seems to operating normally. Anyone have a similar experience? Does the message mean that the SOS Call Button is disabled?

I'm driving a loaner RIS right now, and that has come up once or twice. Doesn't seem to last. I was wondering if it comes up when wireless/cell service is limited?

I saw that a couple days ago when I checked on the truck in the garage. As others said, it went away after a little.

Not to scare others, but I blew off the alert because, at the time, I had an active 12V battery alert (replace the battery now). Mobile service appointment this morning to replace the batteries, so I’ll keep an eye on it going forward.

I assumed they were related, but maybe not since others are reporting similar alerts.

It does that when it loses its connection.

Consider one or both resets. Consider calling 855-RIVIAN-5 for insight. Consider driving with the uncertainty about whether your SOS button will work in a crisis or not.

Since the warning went away, @Yossarian, I could justify any of the actions above. Please let us know what you find out. Thanks for your forum participation!

This is just like that Minority Report movie with the little guy that runs fast. Your Rivian knows ahead of time that something bad is going to happen:surprised:

Thanks for the replies. Loss of connection seems a very likely cause. The message popped up while we were at our cabin in the Poconos, which is nestled among several PA State Game Lands, and where mobile phone connection ranges from spotty to non-existent.

I actually have a service appointment next Monday and will add this issue to the list and report back what the result was.

I had this happen yesterday while driving, and at the same time I noticed that the nav showed a message that said something like "rerouting using offline maps" so it was clear to me that there was a loss of connectivity (although my podcast was not interrupted).

For the time being I am going to chalk this up to an issue upstream of my truck and just keep an eye out for further trouble.

I had it pop up for less than 1/4 of a second while driving, barely had time to read it much less remember the exact words..

I had the same thing pop up in my Gen 1 R1T a couple days ago. I didn't do anything about it and haven't seen the message since...

Just had this happen to me an hour ago. Maybe it has something to do with the update being delivered? I haven’t received the latest update yet.

also happening to me, not a reception issue as i have not gone anywhere with poor reception and the SOS icon is static now on drivers display noting the malfunction. Have a service visit coming up in a few weeks added a request.

I had this come on and off a few times yesterday while driving up in the timber to a trailhead at about 6000'.

I called Rivian support and they said likely lack of cell service, but I'm not convinced they really know this. The support agent hadn't heard of the issue before and had to do some checking. Wanted to know if it was still on the screen (no), if it happened when I was stationary or moving (moving), and whether or not I had done a reset (no). Support said the usual "if it comes on again and persists let us know and we can schedule an appointment." Since it goes away a reset is obviously not going to tell you anything.

I've had it happen one or two times before, can't remember the circumstances, but *could* have been a lack of cell service issue. However, there is no cell service when parked outside here at our home and it never comes on here, and we run in and out of service (at least phones don't work and the truck shows no bars) every time we drive the 60 miles to town so I'm not really comfortable with the lack of cell service explanation.
