Hey all. See photo. I assume there is no fix other than a service appointment. Started with tonneau only opening a few inches and stopping. Then, I tried a reset and it got stuck sideways. This is a 1.5 tonneau. Have had it for 6 months. Hoping for a magical solution but… I assume it is still ok to drive with it this way?

What's this?
Rivian R1T R1S Stuck tonneau 1754088438622-wl

Did you get something stuck in there, or is that part of the mechanism sticking out?
I've never seen this failure before - usually the slats get stuck because one end is being retracted faster than the other end, so the slat ends up really crooked and stuck. Yours is only slightly crooked at this point.

Regardless, this is a service call. No harm of driving it that way, but I would disable the tonneau in the settings just to make sure you don't accidentally cause more damage.

Mine stuck like that at the service center once (gen 1), and the advisor pushed the crap out of it forward while holding the open button down. It opened right up. Not saying that is the solution, however.....

I agree... that doesn't look right....

Nothing stuck in there. That’s an exposed part of the motor/shaft assembly since the slats did not retract evenly.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
That is well and truly borked. It ripped itself out of the assembly, which is impressive.

Truck is fine to drive. But they're going to be giving you an entirely new tonneau, and I would push -hard- for 2.0. My 1.5 was also replaced once, kept jamming. But nothing like this.

I will certainly push for a 2.0. Anyone knows what their policy is of late on this. Do they consistently replace like for like and make you pay if you want 2.0 or do they consistently move folks up to 2.0?

Appointment made, by the way. Going next Thursday. A day’s work typically for a replacement?

Well thank you. I feel special. 😉

Please tell me this is an old service bulletin. They can’t still be investigations root causes of tonneau cover issues?

So Rivian service called me back tonight to inform me replacement tonneau covers won’t be available until September and wanted to reschedule my Thursday appointement. I asked to keep it to see if they could at least reposition that first slat so I don’t have water coming into the motor/shaft compartment for the next two months or so. Anyone knows if that’s doable? Just reposition the slat even if the cover remains non functionning? And am I right about water coming into the motor/shaft compartment? That can’t be good, right?

So I dropped by my local service center yesterday to show them the tonneau. They confirmed the only fix was a full cover replacement and also said water intrusion would not be an issue in the meantime. They gave me an appointment for end of August in the hope they will have received the new cover by then. And they did confirm it would be the new, rolling version. Will keep this thread update.
