Well, the Garmin (at least mine) is a watch, and charging cradle at bottom is standard.To be fair, Garmin built their charge port on the bottom of the watch too, which is as non-sensible as Apple's choice. Endlessly frustrating in both cases. In Garmin's case, it's almost worse since you have to look at the screen to see if it's charged!
I know some folks who have used a 90 degree elbow connector to plug the Garmin into a battery pack during long races so they can charge it without ending their activity, and it stays snug between the watch and their wrist.
In the end, that's kind of the key difference. You can still use a Garmin while it's charging from the bottom. You can't use an apple mouse when it's plugged in.
