One of my Rivian pet peaves is how vampire drain affects the trip meter efficiency readings. For instance, if I take a modest 15 mile drive, I may see 2.30+ miles/kWh average on the trip meter. So, I get home and put the car to bed for the night. The next day, when I first get in the car, the trip meter is now showing, for that same trip, 1.8 -2+/- miles/kWh. WTH? The problem is, it appears that any vampire drain, not just driving drain, is factored into the overall efficiency. This is very annoying!!! If one were to drive for 200 miles, without an extended stop, the VD during that time /distance frame would be insignificant. If one is taking shorter drives, with longer down time, the VD becomes a much bigger factor in the calculation.
So, why can’t Rivian make the trip meters just that - trip meters - and only factor in data while the car is actually moving. When the car has been stationary for 10 minutes or whatever, the VD would no longer be a part of the mileage efficiency rating. This would allow for stop and go situations, but not affect mileage when the car is sitting over night. MILES/kWh is a DISTANCE calculation. It should not include extended down time. I you had an ICEV you would necessarily include, in the mileage calculation, that time when the car is idling at a stop light or in traffic. But, you wouldn’t leave the car running in the darn garage overnight and then expect any sort of meaningful driving efficiency calculations Just sayin’.
