What? Is this real? So if a Tesla pulls up they’ll need an adapter?

It is very real! Teslas do not need adapters, because all Teslas here (New Zealand) use the same CCS2 connector as every other EV.

Sadly, I was not charging my Rivian with this, but a rented Polestar.

That's because CCS(2) is the world standard. You don't hear the rest of the world b*tching and moaning about CCS - because when everyone agrees to use one standard, and they actually make the system user friendly to use, it actually works.

How so? It looks just as bulky as a CCS1 plug. Does it have faster output? How does it compare to China’s standard?

Supercharger in Moab, UT had the same plug that worked with my Rivian R1T. The Tesla NACS appeared to plug into the back of it but I don't believe its could be disconnected.

That's a magic dock and yes you can just use the NACS plug when you pull it out of the charging station. A bunch of those are available across the US.
