Gonna get my windows tinted tomorrow.

Ceramic 70 as I don’t want dark windows at night. I’m old. Just looking to keep the car a bit cooler in our sunny weather.

My question: anybody also tint the front windshield to the AS-1 line?

If so, how dark? Any photos.

Also: roof. Not doing that tomorrow, but has anybody tinted the roof glass? If I do, it won’t be till summer.
Thanks all

You’re not old - you’re just well seasoned.

I personally wouldn’t tint my windshield because of how often we get cracks in CO. And Rivian’s Fuyao glass doesn’t seem to be all that durable.

Most installers would advise against tinting the roof although I believe some here have done it. I plan to just get one of the interior shades for that. It’s cheaper.

I just got my truck tinted.
  • Entire windshield in Llumar FormulaOne Pinnacle 50%
  • Front two windows in Pinnacle 25%
  • Rear doors and back glass in Llumar Air 80
Very happy with it. I chose Air 80 on the rear glass because I wanted additional heat rejection, without going too dark. Otherwise, it woood have been Pinnacle 50 on the rear and Pinnacle 15 on the front doors, to be a close match.

If you mainly want heat reduction and/or better nighttime visibility, and you do t care so much about privacy, you can do 90% ceramic all around, including the entire windshield—it’s basically clear, looks consistent, and provides a very noticeable reduction in heat. I did it on my Honda and I can drive with AC on minimum power in summertime, whereas in the past I had to keep it on medium for comfort.

Love the Air 80. I went with that on the windshield and F1 Pinnacle on the front doors.

I got my front windows tinted to match the back and love it.

I also got my windshield tinted 80% in full and loved it... Until I caught a fat rock and now have to get it replaced. It was great for summer road trips! But can't see myself replacing it annually if the windshields must be.

YMMV

I haven’t considered the glass roof, but you bring up a good point. I spend a good amount of time in the desert, so anything to bring down AC use would likely translate to higher efficiency and more range.

Don’t waste your time or money tinting the roof. All ceramic tint absorbs heat, while reflecting a low percentage. What’s going to happen is that tint will absorb heat and radiate down on your head, shoulders, etc.

In my Mach-e with a tinted roof, I could feel the heat on my scalp, though a thick head of hair. Removed the tint and felt nothing on a hotter day with a higher UV index.

Spend your money on a perforated sunshade. It does a better job than tint.

Another tip : I highly recommend you DO NOT get Suntek ceramic for the front windshield. The low angle haze (LAH) from the Suntek ceramic was horrible. I think the haze is worse given the angle of the Rivian windshield. I just recently had my newly tinted windshield tint removed because it was so bad. I've heard Llumar tint does a better job of limiting this LAH, but for now after dealing with that horrible LAH, I'll hold off until I can see in person if there is any LAH with the Llumar tint before getting it.
