Hello! Getting a new windshield for my '23 R1T through insurance and Safelite.

Safelite says they use aftermarket glass, but are able to do it now.

Any experience with Aftermarket vs OEM glass in these trucks?

(I already know they can't calibrate ADAS, so will be taking it into the SC for that)

Thanks for the help!

Not completely relevant, but I had a windshield replaced on a prius prime last summer in Jackson, WY through Safelite.
They did not have any aftermarket windshields at their Utah warehouse, so USAA approved oem glass for the vehicle.

Everyone says OE glass is so fragile, so who knows maybe aftermarket might be better you might even get a tinted top section. Though most likely you'll get an OE one as I doubt the aftermarket is making glass for such low volume yet.

If you can provide feedback after the replacement that would be good. Curious if it is aftermarket glass and what the cost is. Also curious about the effort and cost getting the ADAS recalibrated.

As mentioned earlier, I don't see how an aftermarket glass could be any more fragile than the OEM version — in fact, it's likely more durable. Plus, they appear to calibrate just as reliably as the OEM glass.

Did your Safelite location confirm they CAN'T do calibration? I had them repair a chip in my windshield in November and asked about this and my guy said that it varies by location and that some (many?) have the equipment to perform the calibration

I second, third and fourth the saying about the OEM glass being crap. I already got a chip and I stay way away from other cars and trucks. No drafting for me.

On the plus side, maybe they'll actually set your glass correctly and have even gaps all around and you'll end up with less wind noise as a result.

Rivian scratched my windshield fixing rattles in my dash and had to replace it. Rivian body shop scratched my driver side glass and had to replace that while in for a different repair. I already have pits in my windshield but luckily on the passenger side mostly so it's not super obvious. I do everything I can to not draft or drive behind trucks but it's just impossible given my area and the type of glass they use.

Like the former employee said "there's no FUYAO without FU!" in the documentary film "American Factory" which just happens to be about the company that makes the windshield for Rivian.

So who’s gotten a Safelite windshield already? Take a picture of the brand mark would you? If it’s made in China, it’s about to cost more than Fuyao in Ohio.

Pretty much every windshield in the USA--oem or otherwise--is made by fuyao. The only difference is that the replacement glass may lack the Rivian logo.

Fuyao was also the subject of the academy award winning documentary American Factory.

Same thing happened to me. One glass shop quoted me over $3K to have an OEM windshield installed including calibration. Safelite charged me only for my insurance deductible. Then I took it to Rivian service center for camera calibration. Savings of over $2200!
Plus the first shop wanted to keep my truck for 2 weeks.
