Agree with @babock putting skis in the truck bed is not ideal. My skis have to be put in diagonally to fit, leaving little room for luggage or gear in the bed, and also as babok said, the edges and tops are more likely to get scratched with multiple skis in there. We have both all-mountain and powder skis, so 4 skis at least. A couple weekends ago we were skiing Vail and had 6 skis in the rack when heading to the slopes from our condo. Maybe that's showing off in Texas but in Colorado that's just weekend fun ;)

The R1T is an amazing ski vehicle. Our friends were very impressed. The gear tunnel seats are perfect for getting your boots on and off, a simple but genius idea from the Rivian design team. The truck, with Nokian snows, handled multiple passes in blizzard conditions with ease, 36" over 3 days. Temps dropped in -F overnight and our place didn't have a garage so I was losing about 15 miles range overnight. A couple of times the gear tunnel and tailgate sensors stopped working, saying they weren't closed, probably due to ice build-up. Opening and closing hard didn't seem to help but that cleared after a day of skiing while the truck was in the parking garage.

Having the rack on the truck bed is really nice, so easy to get the skis on and off, my wife can actually help, haha. It will block the rearview though. Sorry to hijack again but I'm really pleased with my wireless RV camera and screen, worked great all weekend and didn't mud and ice up like the built-in rearview camera, so also served as a backup backup. This was on our way out of Denver before hitting the blizzard! Rearview mirror was practically unusable with the skis on there.

Thanks for posting this, just received the fatcats in the mail today and was trying to find if I could use T-bolts instead of the straps that came with them. The pics and the link were helpful.

if you order the bolts that slide into the slot you really don't need spacers, IMO, the plastic on the bottom of the rack just sits on the cross-bar. It's a little higher on one side than the other but I don't think that makes a difference.

It's actually metal to metal on the latch side and it would look pretty lame. Takes a few minutes to 3d print the parts so it doesn't look like a hack job.
