Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Paint is $1k cheaper than R1 for every color. Probably just smaller size in R2 like you said.

Forest green $2500 R1, $1500 R2
Glacier white $1950 R1, $1000 R2
Storm blue/catalina cove/midnight $3000 R1, $2000 R2
Wow! Ok, I stand corrected. Those R1 paint options are insane. Storm Blue for $3,000!!! R2 is still high in my opinion, but not THAT high.

Personally I think if the R2 is supposed to be a mainstream vehicle it should have mainstream pricing for everything, not luxury pricing for paint, accessories, etc.

It'll be a smaller battery that will not charge as fast as it's competition unfortunately. Everything about R2 is to reduce costs.
100% but they also need to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Build the cheap version, but design versions that can have more range as OPTIONS. And then let the people decide if they want a $55k SUV that goes 300 miles or a 70k SUV that goes 350, or an 85k one that goes 400.
I GUARANTEE you it pushes folks into that upper trim.
Apple made a killing with this strategy on storage space and this would not be that dissimilar.

I think it sucks that every color but one costs $1000-2000 extra, and Borealis isn't available until 2027.
No reds? No blues? Three greens?
Yeah, it’s disappointing for sure. Four neutral colors, three greens, and a purple. WTF?! I just hope they have warmer and/or brighter colors in the future. Even if they’re limited run.

Agreed, except for Borealis, which isn't even available until next year. That's a real disappointment.
I LIKE the Borealis, it looks more like eggplant, but the only thing I’ll say is that it shows ANY dirt more than about any other color, even more than black..

Lease terms better be good. 2k for paint is bit much.

Have 7 more months on my current lease, so we'll see..
Just did a sample calculation for the base Performance at $57990.

Came to a potential advertised cost of ~$699/mo+tax for 36/10 based on 59% residual and $5k cap cost reduction (down payment). Lease APR used was around the R1S Dual Max Performance which is much higher than the R1S Dual Standard. I don't expect incentives nor low APR at launch.

Yikes, that's an expensive paint job! 2k for CC seems excessive.

But aren't the dark and light R1 interiors of equivalent quality with respect to each other? So why is the lighter one upcharged $4500?
Yeah, that seems suss. I was saying the R2 interior is not supposed to be as nice as the R1 interior, or at least that’s what early reviewers are saying. It’s still nice and comfortable, just not as premium, understandably.

Why are the smaller rims $1000 extra? Isn’t that backwards?
Lower take rate...

Pirelli also could have cut them a massive deal on those $440 21" tires figuring they would make it back on 2nd and 3rd sets. Lots more competition in the 20" size.

🤷‍♂️

With most getting a premium or better trim because they want AWD on their rugged "adventure vehicle" and then just adding a spare tire, paying 1.5k destination fee, and state tax, they almost all will find themselves north of 59k or a lease on that basis. Does 59k+ work as a mass market vehicle? An AWD Tesla Model Y which does sell as a mass market vehicle sells south of 46k after destination fee and taxes. Even if you go to the premium AWD Model Y which is arguably more comparable, it is still 6k cheaper. I'm sure many here for many reasons would choose to pay that 6k more, but my question is more for the masses less about us the enthusiasts.
Yes, but it’s a model Y…
