Rivian R1S and Telsa Model Y
I love the Y (we are on our second one) but I just call it a "tall car" (which is fine for what it is)

A couple weeks ago I had to use my key card to get in my Cybertruck because my phone as key somehow reset while I was out walking at the lake, and there was no signal and it wouldn't unlock from the app. Also about a year ago I walked up to my front door of my house and my smart lock had died! Luckily I do keep a house key in my pocket or I would have been breaking into my own house! Needless to say I do NOT trust tech 100% and always have a manual backup.
yeah i always carry my telsa and rivian key card with my credit cards with me. For my house, i have 2 doors with the keypad for a backup but do get plenty of warning on battery for the main door of the house.

Nice thing about Rivian compared to Tesla, I am assuming the Rivian phone key would work without a cell signal. Actually surprised the Tesla one didn't work without a cell signal. The garage I park in for work doesn't have much of a cell signal and never had an issue.

It does work without a signal if you have an iPhone. It uses UWB to u lock the door.

I have an iPhone. I don’t know why it didn’t work but it didn’t. Only happened once before years ago on my Model 3. But in this case it had reset my phone connection as a key and wouldn’t respond in the app.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Every time Elon gets brought up, the thread goes to $hit and doesn't comeback to the original subject.

Do you own a Tesla and are you or are you not trading in for R2?
I don’t own a Tesla, but I’m leasing a Model 3. It’s a great vehicle, but I identify as a Rivian. I like hiking, rock climbing, and I want to try car camping and light off-roading, like trails.

I plan on leasing an R2 in 2027. I’m not sure which one because the lease deals haven’t been that great since the tax credit ended. I also need something I can go 15K miles in a year. I wish I could win one of those EV raffles out there.

Haha, I do too, even though I don't have one yet. When I see a Rivian on the road, I get excited, smile and say "Hi Rivian buddy!" and my wife reminds me that no Rivian driver out there is going to notice/acknowledge me since I'm in a Subaru Forester... then I'm sad again.

its supposed to work but nothing in software is 100%. I feel Tesla is very stable overall though.

Oh I agree. That’s two solid connection failures across five vehicles in 8 years.

I get excited when I see a Rivian too. Now I’ve even got my wife spotting them.

Are you planning on getting an R2? If so what trim? I like the new Subaru EVs, like the Uncharted. The styling is great, but I don’t think they have the software that Rivian does.

I've been planning to get an R2 ever since it was revealed. We would have an R1 if we could afford it... We've been cutting spending and saving up for the past two years just to afford the Launch Edition R2, and it's still a huge financial decision.
As for the Subaru (Toyota) EV offerings.... meh. I had a loaner Solterra for a few days earlier this year and I was underwhelmed. It wasn't very engaging at all, not to mention not able to go off-road (despite how Subaru advertises it). The Trailseeker is just a stretched Solterra, so it'll suffer from the same problem as well as having reduced range than the already underperforming Solterra. And since I'm looking at ground clearance and approach/departure angles, the R2 is really the only EV option even close to a price we can afford. Any software is going to be better than I have now, so I guess that isn't a huge consideration of mine. The wife thought the Solterra was like a spaceship, so.... yeah. We'll be happy with anything as long as it can take us into the wilderness.

....but I've taken us off topic long enough.
