Amen. Don't forget the one who said they literally cried over the price increase.

So many spoiled, entitled whiners here who think the world revolves around them because they were "loyal". And even if they were "loyal" (because apparently "loyalty" = posting on Internet forums) to a corporation then that's a really messed-up way to go through life.

Get a grip, people.
@simpsonhomer. did you go to the 1st Mile Events? Have you met RJ? I have and many others on here who have canceled or plan on canceling have as well. So I’d say that goes a little beyond posting on the Internet for loyalty. And certainly more than a nasty troll that likes mocking people.

At least some people on here have some self-respect, and aren’t willing to bend over and take more. I’m glad there’s a lot of people here that aren’t just blind fanboys that will continue to buy the products no matter if they slap arbitrary markups on it or not. it shows that you don’t know the value of a dollar and are just willing to throw it away for a company who has repeatedly abused their relationship with their customers. Or you’re lying and you don’t have an order in the first place.

But sure, keep buying their stock, buy every accessory and product they throw your way even if they raise it 20% right before they ship it to you, and enjoy the stock performance after the lock up period, and Laura Schwab lawsuit go through ??

You're a perfect example of an entitled brat. "Loyalty" doesn't involve doing something to try to get something out of it. That's greed and selfishness on your part, not loyalty.

And this is why you're so emotionally distraught like others on this forum. It's because you actually believe people owe you something because you ate free food at an event that someone else paid for.

Quit whining and move on. Rivian is a business like any other business and their goal is to make as much money as possible in the long run. You're fooling yourself if you believe otherwise. And unless you get out of this me-me-me mentality, you'll keep experiencing this "everyone is out to get me even though the world should revolve around me" crying cycle over and over.

There is a Producer Price Index for Motor Vehicles which provides great insight on industry inflation. I can see 3-7% over the last 3-5 years. That I could understand. Anything more is either poor management and opportunistic. I thought differently of Rivian. I truly hope they modify the approach.

White paint was "included". Now it's a $1500 upgrade. I guess the price of white paint has skyrocketed. I wonder how much steering wheels have gone up????

Brian
Steering wheels are now an option for $800.

If you want your truck to be able to turn, you must pay up!

Pricing wasn't truly communicated until they launched the configurator in November of 2020. It's literally been less than 18 months, not 5 years. We keep on dancing around this fact to try to justify these price increases, but it just ain't so.

Paint has gone up quite a bit, and white uses a lot of Titanium Dioxide. The raw titanium use to make it is frequently a byproduct from machining titanium, so it's in the complex supply chain, dependent on upstream manufacturers such as aerospace production.

But $1500 additional? Yeah, that seems excessive....

It is excessive when Audi for the Q7 (comparable size vehicle to the S) is $595 for all paints others than the one free one. Mercedes is also lower than the $1500 so this is profiteering from Rivian on paint and wheels.

For the record, I agree with the sentiment that this sucks and the way it was communicated was dreadful and I realize this post will probably get blasted, but I do want to point out that inflation in the auto sector is higher than the 7.5% CPI inflation that is broadly reported. The 7.5% is essentially a blended rate across all sectors of consumer spending, where the Bureau of Labor assigns an arbitrary weight to each class of goods for where they deem the "average" family spends their money. The link below shows inflation by class of goods, and you can at least see there that transportation is much higher than the 7.5%. New vehicle inflation is about 12.2% (YOY), and used cars are 40.5% (!). Vehicle parts and equipment is 10.2%. The leftmost numerical column shows the "relative importance" (i.e., weighting) used by the DOL.

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.t02.htm

This is an interesting link to bookmark and come back to monthly as they update data on a rolling 12 month basis. This is a long way of saying that simply saying the price increases are 17-20%, and inflation is only 7.5% is misleading. /ducks and covers

The best news in there? Girls apparel is down 4.3% YOY, so I'm getting a deal by having two daughters!

Rational facts like this won’t go over well with this entitled message board ?

LMAO!

For anyone with a Rivian preorder as of the March 1 pricing announcement, your original configured price will be honored. If you canceled your preorder on or after March 1 and would like to reinstate it, we will restore your original configuration, pricing and delivery timing. Our team will be sending an email in the next few days with more details.

Where did I say when the price was communicated in my post? I didn't, and that was intentional. I'm completely familiar with the debate about when prices were or were not establish. I used 2018 as a starting point for the graph because that's when the truck was formally announced at the LA Auto Show.

Backpeddle!! Maybe it will bring some people back. Obviously they should have done this from the beginning.

I think you have a twisted view of loyalty when what they did it was a clear-cut bait and switch for many people expecting deliveries within weeks. Remember, this is not an established brand, they don’t have years of production or thousands of customers to build up that word of mouth or goodwill that is crucial for continued growth.

It’s not greed or selfishness to believe in the people and company that made commitments to you in person that they could achieve this outcome only to the break that promise at the last second.

Like I have mentioned elsewhere, I never believed that the price point they were selling these trucks and SUVs at was financially feasible especially related to Laura Schwabā€˜s comments, but the way that they attracted preorder customers to their company by artificially keeping their prices low just to raise them at the last second speaks of a irresponsible, and that worse malicious intent to prop up shareholder value for the IPO above customers. If they would have started off their prices at this price point, or slightly below we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. It’s a lack of trust between consumer and business. Believe it or not people do build relationships in business, it is not purely transactional.

They don’t need me, and they don’t need others on here, and I don’t agree with people throwing their stuff away or burning letters, but from what I’m seeing of the thousands of people canceling their orders that will have a material impact on their company and performance going forward.

I expect a brand that is trying to build their business to honor their commitments to providing a product to people who have been waiting for 3 to 4 years at the price point they put last year NOT 2018, and who have repeatedly told media outlets that they can make this product at this price point. You’re delusional if you think that what they did hear wasn’t malicious in nature and will impact their long-term survival if they were misleading investors as well as customers. I don’t think you grasp the seriousness of the situation.

I will move on, and take my business elsewhere, but it’s sad to see a company whose mission is to make the world a better place turn out to be another corporate sham.

Calling people names, and questioning their emotional maturity shows a lack of intelligence especially since you are participating on a fan site dedicated to Rivian. If you don’t care about loyalty, trust or value 545 and then I don’t know how you can be secure with your purchase.

Edit: RJ does care! I guess loyalty does mean something. Now I’m crying tears of joy Because I’m just a big old crybaby. You can still pay the inflated price though since it doesn’t matter /s ?
