Which iKamper are you going with? I'm concerned the skycamp mini ladder will conflict with the camp kitchen. It seems you can't get one that opens to the driver's side...
The Skycamp mini 3.0, but we're going to rotate it 180° from how it's typically mounted. iKamper doesn't recommend this because their design has a little lip on the front to stop the lid being lifted by air. Since we are bed mounting ours with the Rivian xbars I'm not worried about air getting under the lid since it'll be in the dead zone behind the window. At least that's the current plan. Hope to have both by end of Apr. to test.

I plan on doing this. Thinking about doing an overnighter with it. One of the reasons I wanted the Max pack.

I’m hitting Moab in a few weeks. Wish I had my Rivian to break it in…

R1S with Large pack has a projected range of 316 miles
Subtract 10-15% for All-Terrain wheels and tires = 268-284 miles
Driving at low speeds on steep and slippery surfaces presumably cuts range further.
I'm not sure by how much - maybe 50% or so?
Leaving 134-142 miles of true off-road range - is this a reasonable estimate or am I missing something?

From what I can tell online, the White Rim Road loop is about 124 miles of total driving from Moab, with 71 miles of dirt and the rest pavement. It seems like it should make it on a full charge, if the above assumptions are reasonable.

Thoughts? Anyone planning on taking their R1 on this trip?
A lot of good comments here, similar things I would have said, if I weren’t so late to this string. I’ve done White Rim Trail twice, including last October, which I had booked with the intention of driving my R1S, which was to have been delivered to me last Aug \ Sept. My 2007 FJ has a max range of just over 200 miles, and I took every side excursion, stopped for tons of photos and hikes, 2 nights camping, 3 days of driving (first and last day are really 1/2 days), and ended up having 1/4 tank of gas left each time. So, 150 miles or so, and I’m not worried about my R1 not having enough juice to make it. I will keep monitoring where any slow or fast chargers are in the area (PlugShare app).

As long as you know the half way point you'll be fine. If you get to 50% SOC before then, turn around. I'm guessing you'll end up with 50-80 miles of range left.

The Under Canvas site actually lists them by name on their site, so something's out of whack:

"Charge any electric vehicle on our Rivian Waypoints electric vehicle charging stations"
I stopped by yesterday and the chargers are still there, the display shows 11.5kw and free. I didn't ask if it's okay to use them if not staying there but the location is out of town a few miles so not a lot to do while waiting for a charge, although a couple mountain bike trail networks are relatively close.

Off road range is actually pretty good. They had some comments on the cross country trip, but they are mostly getting close to the promised range.

My thanks, South, in advance for any learnings. Hey, June is just around the corner! We feel like Sept. is a year away. Hoping to have our R1T, camp kitchen and iKamper by Sept.

We're planning to break the trail into thirds, camping two nights. TBH we don't have specific sites targeted b/c I fear they are going to go so fast we'll just have to take what we can get. I hope I'm wrong, though. We already lost out on trying to reserve Needles Campground; they were all gone instantly at opening. I saw White Crack and looks great; a bit off the beaten path which should be beautiful.

Are you going to do the trail in two days, then? Have you been there before?
Did you manage to get permits? I tried today at 8 a.m. for mid October and it kept erroring out until all the reasonable options were gone. I did reserve a couple nights in the needles in September and three nights in the maze for October.

Hey JeremyP - Yes, today was our lucky day and got our two nights booked for our target dates. Gooseberry and Hardscrabble in Sept. Our hearts were pounding as 8 AM approached. Our 8 step purchase process also opened today so today has been a huge weight off.

I'm sorry to hear you missed out on the Oct. White Rim options but actually pretty astounded you got Needles! We tried a month ago to get Needles and did not have luck so will be staying near by in Buckboard. You'll have to take a look at the Chesler Park trail when you're at Needles since you're right there; we hope to do that hike on one of our days.

Disappointing that Rivian would allow these to be restricted such that Rivian owners can't use them without paying $300 for a fancy tent. Not exactly "adventurous" imo.
Yah not exactly open to everybody. Not exactly what they are hyping them up to be. Kind of sucks if you can't use them unless you pay the price.

I'm going to keep looking for more data from R1's on dirt roads/off-roading until our trip. Worst case, we'll probably drive the beginning and make at least the first night and evaluate progress. If things aren't looking promising we'll turn around and make the climb back out before pushing it.
If any others have hard data on low speed dirt road R1 efficiency I think we're all ears.
Emme Hall ran the 2020 Rebelle Rally in a pre-production R1T and reported getting 167 miles per charge running 38 psi with climate control off, dropping as low as 50 miles per charge in dunes running 22 psi. They had about 600 lbs of extra gear, a large pack batter with less capacity available than production, and were only charging to 80% according to various articles and interviews.

If you turn around at 50%, good luck climbing back out the way you came!

I didn't realize the trail starts downhill for the first half. That would definitely complicate things.

Rivian likely just provided the wall adapter. I believe that there are Tesla destination chargers listed that are guest only.

If camping two nights I would make sure that the vehicle is as off as possible when not moving.

I find many of these borderline trip opportunities which is why I'm waiting for max pack.

It was crazy how quick things booked up!

We are going to try to make it to druid arch this time; we were out there several years ago but the kids were little so the hikes were short. If you pass through Grand Junction on your trip let me know, my wife is from southern MN.

We might go up to beef basin as well and hopefully Bobby's hole isn't washed out like last time we were there!
