There is also the persistent rumor/suspicion that it is too narrow to fit 4x8 sheet goods. Again, everything that I would consider full sized is wide enough to fit the sheets, even if they hang out to back a bit.
From sources within Rivian, these are the quoted dimensions for the R1S cargo area:

Cargo floor length behind the first row: 84.7"
Cargo floor length behind the second row: 57.7"
Cargo Floor Length behind the third row: 21"

Cargo floor width behind the first row: 58.9"
Cargo floor width behind the second row: 51"
Cargo floor width behind the third row: 51"

Cargo height: ~33.5 inches

So should be just wide enough for standard sheet goods like sheetrock or plywood, but its the length that could be a problem, since the upper portion of the rear liftgate latches to the lower portion. So curious how one would keep the upper portion closed if trying to haul something longer than 84.7"...

Thanks@Aroohoo. I've gone back time and time again to look at the R1S size comparison on RivianStories. I really like the R1S form factor. It's no longer than an Explorer, Sequoia, Ascent or whatever, but it's got much more vertical space. Rivian says 101 cubic feet, but I wonder if that's counts the frunk or not. In any event, it's a big, square hunk of well proportioned utility, and we know it hauls ass, so what's not to like?
Only missing Land cruiser 200 series

Did anyone notice that R1S doesn't have a sloped hood? Any car/truck will exhibit poor visibility. You'll be staring at the hood rather than the road ahead of you.
Lightning hood is not sloped either.

Just use front facing cameras...no problem

Given the SW integration, I think there are questions if the R1S will let you drive with the rear open (reference the posts about it stopping on people backing up their trailer when they rise out the seat and the car thinks no one is in the seat).
If it does allow it to drive like it did in the post below, could probably pull down the top and tie it down to some points somewhere: (https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/hauling-sheet-goods-long-lumber-in-r1s.2178/post-57915)

There still remain 2 questions in my mind:
  1. Tie down points to secure sheet goods.
  2. Whether the tail opening is wide enough for sheet goods (Someone said they measured the prototype R1S that was making the rounds at the expo several years ago and that at the widest point the opening was less than 48").

One last thing, the numbers you quote align with what was posted in the following threads:
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ving-the-5-seat-configuration.2205/post-59552

Those are maximum numbers. If the W201 number is still current, there is only 42in between the wheel well area in the R1S.

End of the day I think we need an actual production version to be measured at the very least to determine the width of the hatch/tailgate opening to answer the question of sheetgoods.

Do we have the load height at rear? Personally I think it looks really high, too high for a dog to jump in for example

How do front facing cameras help when you are staring at a hood while driving?
Hood must be sloped so it doesn't interfere with blocking the road in front of you.

Basic driver's education should have taught you that you should be looking much further down the road, not at what's immediately in front of you. By the time something is obscured by the hood, it's too late to do anything about it. The Rivian's hood does not cause any problems in that regard. It might make parking (or tire placement when offroad) harder for some people but that's where the camera suggestion comes in.

Basic driver's education? Is that where the instructor guides you to not to keep your eyes on the hood? How can you not, it's right in front of you the whole time!

I simply pointed out whether anyone noticed how the hood, which isn't sloped is an eye sore. Clearly there's no engineering purpose behind straight hood.

Straight hood increases volume of front storage compartment (frunk).

This is great, but why did they compare the R1S to the VW Touareg instead of the Atlas?

Yes, look where you want to go. Driving 101.

My 16yo took his road test a few months ago. 3 minutes of driving. Use a signal, turn left, stop at the sign, passed. Astonishingly, 50% is the failure rate for that.
