Lost in all the fuss about the email finally going out at the 11th hour is a complete lack of update regarding the supposed "configuration lock" feature and persistent delivery estimate on the account page.
The lock feature is there now. It happens around the time you get a guide. Not sure if they have plans to move that earlier in the process to help ensure proper builds.

Re: account page delivery estimates... from the 4/29 email...
When will I be able to see my delivery window on my Account Page?

To get you a refreshed delivery window estimate as soon as possible, we’ll be sharing the next round of updates via email. We're excited to launch the Account Page feature in the coming months, but until then, we’ll make sure you have the latest in your inbox.

No email here. My Dec 2021 delivery window email was 1H2023 for the R1T Max (5/20 pre-order) that I have configured.

Rivian has their hands full at the moment trying to make the R1T LR and to introduce the R1S into their production line, not to mention having to deal with parts shortages and supply chain perturbations. I fully expect that deliveries of the Max will be pushed considerably to the right, though hopefully not by much more than a year. I don't think anyone waiting for a Max can reasonably expect delivery before the end of 2023, with sometime in 2024 being more realistic.

Are you sure the 2023 email is not the R1S?
Yup, no word yet on my R1S reservation.

"Your Adventure package R1T estimated delivery window is second half of 2023

Your delivery window estimate is based on your preorder date, delivery location and current configuration. Here’s why your window has shifte
Supply chai
As we’ve continued to navigate a tight supply chain, we’ve had to reduce complexity wherever possible, including prioritizing certain build combinations over others
Service Infrastructure
We continue to prioritize deliveries in locations where service infrastructure is in place so that we can provide the full ownership experience to Rivian owners from day one." .nd:y one.

I'm about equidistant from 3 different service centers... But all about 5 hours.

Went from July-Sep ‘22 to Oct-Nov ‘22 ?

My early 2019 order obviously doesn’t mean shit.
Did you by any change originally have a MAX pack ordered and then swap to Large?

I hope I get an email. I'm commuting with the new Kona EV (Which is supposed to be my wife's) and she highly dislikes driving the F150 as a grocery getter. She was threatening to buy a beater to drive around. I might be able to forestall that with an email :) hint hint

Have you guys with guides that have pushed windows contacted your guides about the new window? Being the weekend I wouldn't expect a response yet but curious what they would say. These windows are very coarse and guides are going to know more about your order and have more impact on it than some guy doing pivot tables in a spreadsheet making these estimates. I mean maybe the spreadsheet guy knows that your combo isn't going to be built for a while due to batching/parts but is Rivian really not going to build 20" wheels for multiple months?
This. I just had my guide call last week, so I (foolishly?) assumed that was an indication of progress. I was pushed back from july-sept to oct-nov. I also noted the survey on guide-contact-to-delivery time of most people (~80%) happening within 2-4 weeks. I haven’t reached out to my guide yet (it’s the weekend, and I’m sure with these updated timeframe emails he’s getting crushed), but I wonder if - for those with guides and/or vins/8 steps progress - these updated timeframes are applicable…

So looking at some of the updates to delivery time frames, I have a hunch that being outside of a certain radius to a SC or in a state with restrictive laws pushes you back quite a bit from what the original estimate was.

I think this is due to the amount of small things that are having to be corrected after delivery right now, in the idea that the number of little issues will decrease significantly as the production issues are ironed out. In the meantime, Rivian wants to protect the service team (and their budget) by only delivering vehicles that can easily be serviced. There are likely some other variables as well (off road upgrade, wheel choice) that have an impact but that's one thing I've noticed so far.

I had a chat with CS today. They confirmed that the e-mails that were sent out did not take into account if you had an active order and should probably be disregarded.

I can confidently say that if you have a guide assigned and that they indicated your vehicle is in production with a VIN assigned then you can disregard this delivery window. You are not the first customer I have seen this with.

That indicates to me that the data pull that populated this email was done a while back, possibly weeks ago.

Either that, or (are you ready for a good laugh?) they are just under-promising and over-delivering!
That's a good one! ???

But seriously, what that tells me is that the delivery estimate field in SFDC is still a manual push pull from their production database and the real time link is not complete yet. That's disappointing but I suppose not necessarily surprising.
